| Microchipping My yorkie came already Microchipped. Do you think it would be beneficial to me to register her number up or do you think that when a yorkie is lost/stolen, the chances of the microchip being used is slim to none? What are your ideas on this? |

| I think the odds of the microchip being used are good. I'd definitely register her number. My vet's office has a setup for testing the microchip, and I recommend that you do this periodically too.

| I would definatly register the number. Any vet someone should bring your yorkie that they found to would always check for a microchip as a routine. Mine are registered and it is just a piece of mind thing. I also have them licensed with the town. COCO PEBBLES TRIXIE |

| I'm thinking of microchipping Missy too. Is it normally done when you get them spayed?

YT Addict | I have Bailey microchipped and registered, but my vet told me not to put the tag on her because she has seen that if your furbaby is lost or stolen and they see that tag, some people will find their microchip and cut it out. I don't know how true that is, but my vet said that she has seen it before.

| Thank you, I'm guessing this is better than tattooing.

| Okay I definitely will. Where do I go to register their microchip? Is there a website or something? What are the prices I should expect with this? monthly? yearly? or a one time fee? I will be doing it with my next paycheck since this paycheck is paying for christmas gifts! :P |

| Since the microchip is already there, definitely register it. Take advantage of one more tool to help recover your dog, just in case. And like others have said, don't put the tag on their collar. I've heard by using the # on the tag someone can change the registration to their name; but I haven't verified that.

| I copied the following information from the HomeAgain web site. "As an existing HomeAgain client you are entitled to our basic recovery service for life. None of the new services (proactive recovery, emergency service, online health information) will be available to you unless you enroll with the new HomeAgain. There is an annual enrollment fee of $14.99." "More than 3 million pets are enrolled with the HomeAgain service. To date, HomeAgain is responsible for reuniting more than 300,000 lost pets with their owners. On average, HomeAgain returns a pet every six minutes. There are over 70,000 scanners distributed throughout the US at veterinary clinics, shelters and rescue centers ensuring your pet can be scanned and returned to you."

| microchipping! I just had my Dixie done when I had her spayed and my twin daughters had their male yorkie Teddy done when he was neutered a couple of weeks ago. Most definately you should register him, otherwise what good did it do to get him microchipped. We had a poodle that we found another home for about a year ago with a wonderful elderly lady. When she only had him for about three days one of her neighbors came to her door and flung it open and shouted that she wanted to see the new dog and scared this dog to death. He bolted out the door and was gone. My entire family went to help her and all the neighbors find this dog. This was in a very large senior citizen complex. We could not find him anywhere. It was a long night. Everyone was so worried, this complex being next to major highways. The next day I had animal control show up at my door with the dog. Someone had found him and turned him into the police dept and the only way they were able to find out who the dog was was that he still had on his county license tag which was registered to me. Boy was this a happy ending to what could have been a terrible story. I did return him to the new owner but before I did I went and got him two ID tags and made her promise she would make a immediate appt to get him microchipped. He is doing fine now, and she did get this done. This whole episode made me realize that microchipping is so important and worth every penny. Any dog I ever get from now on (although I think I will always have a yorkie now forever) will be microchipped. It is worth it and good peace of mind in this crazy world. I read just a couple of weeks ago that a family in Florida was returned a dog that had been stolen from their yard like years before because he was turned in somewhere in like Ohio and they scanned him and found out who the real owner was. That owner said they thought they would never see their dog again. Another happy ending! Just do it, you won't be sorry! |

| I was reluctant at first to chip Duke, but I too had it done when he was neutered. We paid for the registration fee along with the chipping fee. I would say register yours if he is chipped. I haven't heard about not putting the tag on their collar, I will have to consider that now.

| I would register the dog. When I worked at a municipal animal shelter we scanned every dog that came in for a microchip. Never found one the entire time I worked there though. More's the pity. I will be microchipping mine. |
