| ![]() As some of you know I have lost all three of my dogs in the past 28 days. First my Yorkie Molly, then last Thursday my 15 yr old Golden Retriever had to be put to sleep. This past Tuesday my other Golden Baylee went in for the removal of a fatty tumor......when he opened her up he found she was full of cancer. We chose to not let her wake up. There was absolutely nothing that could have been done for her. Talk about heartbreak. To loose one pet is bad enough, but to loose all three in such a short time is just devastating. The vet's office sent me a card with a note that said "What a lucky Baylee to have you as her mom and make the right choices for her not to suffer. Needless to say it made me cry. They also included this poem. I thought some of you might want to copy this .....it is beautiful! A Dog's Plea Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I might lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn. Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear. Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect yo with my life, should your life be in danger. And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hand Love, Your Pet |

| ![]() Jenny, I am so sorry. Both of our labs have had "fatty tumors." They were brothers. Around 10 years old. We had to put one to sleep last year after it spread to his leg. The other is still here, but has a huge fatty tumor on his shoulder. So far he has not had any pain, though. I had not heard of this until our labs had it. Does anyone know anything about this condition? Is it genetic? I'm sure it's like cancer, and noone really knows why it happens. |

| ![]() Fatty tumors are fairly common in large breed dogs. Baylee had had two others removed. This time he found another tumor under the fatty tumor and it was cancer. It was just behind her front leg/shoulder. He also said he could see lots of other cancer in her. We had no idea she had it. She never seemed in pain, didn't limp or act different in any way. This was a total shock. He said it really was best to just not let her wake up. There was nothing that could be done. All that would have happened is we would have sat back and waited till it got bad enough that she was suffering and then put her down. I could not do that to her. |

| ![]() I am so so sorry for your loss. My family dog past away at the age of 10 almost three years ago and I still have not come to terms with it. For you to lose three is just unimaginable. Thank you for sharing the poem, it brought tears to my eyes and reminded me again that ending my family dog's suffering was the right choice.

| ![]() This has got to be so painful for you now and I am very sorry. Your vet shares in the compassion and grief you have for your fur babies and is very thoughtful sending you their condolences. Thank you for sharing the poem which was given to you, I am sure it will bring comfort to many.

| ![]() My vet also sent me a hand-signed sympathy card with a very nice note in it after I had to put my 15 yr. old toy poodle down last year. It was such a heart-wrenching thing for us to do and I completely broke down at the clinic. Thank goodness it was after hours on a weekend so it was just the vet and asst. that had to witness that but you know they have seen people fall apart when they have to make that awful decision. And it was my vet that I went to when I was thinking about getting Tatum just a couple weeks later. He made me see that I was just not myself without a little one to care for and made me feel good about my desire to get another one. He was very honest and said that he would advise me against it if he thought that was the right thing but after knowing him for those 15+ years while treating Tatum, he was a great "therapist". I'm so sorry for all of your losses.
