My vet also sent me a hand-signed sympathy card with a very nice note in it after I had to put my 15 yr. old toy poodle down last year. It was such a heart-wrenching thing for us to do and I completely broke down at the clinic. Thank goodness it was after hours on a weekend so it was just the vet and asst. that had to witness that but you know they have seen people fall apart when they have to make that awful decision. And it was my vet that I went to when I was thinking about getting Tatum just a couple weeks later. He made me see that I was just not myself without a little one to care for and made me feel good about my desire to get another one. He was very honest and said that he would advise me against it if he thought that was the right thing but after knowing him for those 15+ years while treating Tatum, he was a great "therapist". I'm so sorry for all of your losses.
