| Yorkie Singles If someone has done this before, I apologize in advance. What I am interesting in finding out is if there are any YT owners out there that it is just YOU AND YOUR BABY. (or babies). I think Maya and I are out here alone. Raising a yorkie alone with no back up is new for me. It is the reason (along with still working), that I have not been able to employ the crate training that helped me train Maya. It is also the reason that I must come home in the evenings on time/ limit travel (both for the exxpenses and anxieties that go along with bording her, or leaving her for too long period). It is the reason that we are going to bond closer because I am all she has and she is all I have. Is anyone else out there like me, can we share???

| Hon, You will do great! Not only am I a single Yorkie (mix) mama, I have a Cavalier King Charles too. The Yorkie mix is a million times easier to care for, LOL. I am actually 25, going through a divorce and started out with a husband who was a 'helper' - I did all the work - but it was nice to think I had backup. In the few months I have been single, I have moved cities with my dogs and started a new job. I have learned a lot, and being a single pet parent is a central issue in my life! Here are my recommendations: 1) Make sure you have a trusted vet who knows you are a single pet parent, in case of emergency...you have someone you trust to call. 2) Give a trusted dog loving neighbor a key to your place. This way, if you get stuck in traffic or end up working late, you can call for backup. I have 3 back ups to make sure mine can get walked or fed or even just loved if I get stuck for some reason. A great way to meet people for this purpose is to go on meetup.com and join a local small dog meetup group. Not only will your dogs get to meet other dogs to run and play with, you'll meet other small dog lovers and you guys can cover each other - and babysit for business trips and whatnot. I did this and made some really good friends. 3)Plan in advance for food and treats - I can't say this enough. I got stuck without dog food and didn't have anyone to get more! I always try and have 1 weeks extra on hand and if my life is really crazy, I order supplies online. 4) Routine! Try and keep a routine for them and for your own sake!! 5) Relax! Your dogs are happy to have you - they don't need or want anyone else and you have the tools to provide them with all the love, affection and everything they could want or need. I am so close with my dogs now - I know them better then ever and we work together to make each day work for one another. It ain't easy - but I will say, I never feel alone or lonely, because my bed is filled with furballs and I come home to love and kisses every day!! Finally, I don't know how old you are, but I do find myself passing up certain invites from my non-dog owning friends - like going out on a Friday night and drinking until 3 AM. First, I am not into that anyway, 2nd, I am not leaving the dogs alone like that and finally, if I am all hung over, I can't have a fun Saturday with them!! In some ways, its like being a single parent...the load is all on you...but I find it incredibly rewarding and empowering! When I look at my healthy, vibrant little beasts - I know its ALL ME!! (oh and them too...LOL)

I am 57 years old, and I went through what you are now going through a long time ago, yet I remember how it was and (((((((((((())))))))))))))))) I have trusted dog loving neighbors with keys, but they can't help me all the way, because rambunctious Maya spooks their older and more settled dogs to death... They love Maya, but she can't even be put down on the floor when we visit because she upsets their two, they are also afraid they might snap her up. We have such a routine, I have to laugh at times. The other night I turned the heater on for the first time. THis is Maya's first winter and she never heard that sound before, so she went ballistic all night. I'm pleased to meet you...thanks for the friend invite.

| im a single yorkie parent too.. i must tell you, for me, its rough, but i wouldnt ever want to change it.. when i first got lexi as a puppy omg!! i cried my eyes out thinking i cant do this and keep her happy, but it worked out. i did have mom come and check in on her , but it still worried me.. mom still comes in and out mostly every day to check on lexi, thank god.. it makes me feel so much better.. sometimes i feel i have no social life, because i rush home everyday to get to her, and i dont want to leave her home on weekends since i leave her home alone everyday during the week.. its not easy.. i do have a boyfriend now and in the beginning i think he was getting angry with me since i never wanted to go anywhere cause of lexi.. (too bad). lexi is my one and only and shes my child and always will be. she comes first, even before i do... it will work out.. they love you no matter what.

Thanks for writing all this. I am in grad school right now, so Breyli and I get to spend loads of time together but I'll be starting a job next September and have looked into various diff options. Last summer at my internship, I had a dog walker come and play with her mid-day to break up the day and let her out and have looked into doggy daycare but I was concerned about moving somewhere not knowing many people outside my job just in case I got stuck in a meeting and was running late. meetup.com is such a great idea to look into. | |

| We lived in Miami with my ex, so this is both my dog's experience with cold weather and indoor heat!! They are soo confused. So, tell me it gets easier being single with time....Or lie I am still mid legal proceedings and its been a very painful/ enlightening few months for the dogs and I. The funniest thing is bathtime - one goes in, gets scrubbed, then wrapped in a towel while I wash number 2 - then I alternate the blowdryer on them...Its like an assembly line. My ex and I used to wash them together and we would switch, one would scrub and one would dry - so its been an adjustment (among many). I am glad to meet you. Although I am single, I am so blessed that I don't feel lonely. Its all having the dogs!!!

Honestly, since mine have each other, they do just fine. Its more my own guilt...Also, join a Yorkie group on Facebook, if you haven't already and post a thread for people in your new hood. I made some friends that way too!

| Oh, for real. A man isn't welcome in my life unless he understands the magnitude of importance that I place on my dogs and most likely, that I will always love the dogs more!! LOL

| Thanks! I will say, the dogs have not just been of great comfort, but as I was saying earlier, have helped me make friends! A girl I met at one of the meetups I found on meetup.com is coming over with her pup tomorrow night for dinner and doggie playtime! Its great to make friends who want to hang with each other and with the dogs...and who knows? When I am ready, maybe the new friends know some good, dog loving men!! LOL!! Thank goodness I have the dogs - and did NOT have kids with my ex. and thank goodness I got the dogs in the settlement!

| They really do give a fulfilling relationship in life. Right now, for me, the emotional turmoil of my divorce is the least of it! I have no room in my heart - or bed, LOL for anyone else!!! I find myself chatting with them, making playdates, making their meals...furkids are a full time job! I mean, I don't even have time for a man!!
