| does your baby bark at men? I dont know what it is about men... but as soon as a male walks into the room she goes BERZERK!! I think shes afraid of men... but I dont know why... the only place and time she could have become afraid of men is when she was with her breeder... have any of you dealt with this? or had this happen..??? any advice would be GREAT!!! thank you in advance...

Each puppy will go through developmental stages where the brain is completing some of the unfinished business of hard wiring. One of the stages is the Startle/Recovery reflex. If your girl was not exposed to men during her development, or if she associates the man with something that excites her, she may bark and become excited. If you only had a shadow on the wall to determine whether the person was male or female and the subject is walking you can tell right away which it is. Men walk and move differently than women (Thank Goodness) this can be unsettling for some dogs, especially if they haven't had contact with men. Add to that the deeper voice and more forceful cadence of speech and the puppy suddenly feels threatened. We have all heard someone say that the rescue animal they have must have been mistreated because of the way they react to men, people in uniform, etc... But in all likelihood the reaction is the result of isolation and neglect more than abuse. Temperament is hard wired, genetic, so some tendencies will be past on from the parents. If the puppy inherits a good temperament she is more likely to be well adjusted and of course the opposite is true as well.

| Aurora loves all people, except strangers that walk too close to the house when we are outside and too close to the house is the other side of the street...LOL. She really loves men. If my couple friends come over, she will pay more attention to the men. I notice she got where she gave men more attention after I left my ex. Not sure if she misses having a guy here or what.

YT 500 Club Member | Mine will growl at men if I am alone with her. She seems to be protecting me. I have noticed that if a man approaches me when my hubby isn't present, she gets upset and growls.
