I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think Yorkies are already too popular, and this leads to poor breeding because many people will breed just to meet market demands and not to better the breed. I hope they set an example and get a pound puppy, but please, no "designer breeds." So please think twice before you vote for a yorkie.

| Aren't there Yorkies in shelters? Maybe if they got one from a shelter or rescue that might gain interest in getting a Yorkie from there. Pam |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i read that his daughter is allergic to pets and that obama wants to rescue a dog from a shelter. Obama's First Press Conference Turns To Dog Talk: "This Is A Major Issue" so hopefully he will get a "purebred" from a breed specific rescue. this is an excellent idea.

| They *have* to know the background of the dog they get because of the allergies. I had to get pure-bred Yorkies for the same reason, allergies. However, they will obviously have access to every rescue group in the country and I'm SURE someone will find them a young puppy who they know is good with kids. So while I tried for months to "rescue" before buying a puppy, they have many many more resources than any of us

There are very few dogs that are hypo alergenic. Yorkies and poodles being the most well known. | |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I vote for the cute little puppy that's in the shelter with the bars I hope our new President DOES choose a dog from a shelter or rescue ....I think that would set such an example for this country and bring attention to overbreeding and all the poor animals that are killed each day to make room for more... IF I ever get another dog.... it's def going to be adopted from a shelter or rescue |
