| Sparse yorkie hair Our yorkie is 15weeks old with very thin hair on head. Are there any hopes of her hair getting thicker. If so how long should it take and is there something we can do to help it grow.will post pictures as soon as possible. |

| Same question here...Olivia's hair is so thin. But she is 7 years old so maybe that is why? I barely can get enough to put a bow in! LOL And her coat is very thin too. |

| I to have a yorkie with thin fine hair on his head...He is now 7 months old, and his puppy hair was always kinda dry and corse I let it grow as much as possible but i found it was just getting longer and stringy still very fine, so I recently shaved off all the puppy hair and gave him a shorter haircut on the head, the hiar underneath (on the body) was sooooo much nicer and the hair on his head since I cut it looks alot fuller and actually feels thicker as well, So my advice to you would be to let it grow out for a little while and then give him a nice hair cut this should add body to the hair. the puppy hair can be less then beautiful! but the plus side is that the new growth underneath is usually much nicer softer and shiner as well as thicker! so there is a possibly that there will be a beautiful coat underneath, and giving a layered type cut on the head can help with the thin fine hair, you know with our own hair when we have fine hair and we get our hiarcut it makes it fuller. the same seems to be true with yorkies..give it time its most likely fine and thin just because its his puppy hair, and if you are feeding a GOOD QUALITY food, and nurashing the skin and coat from the inside as well as using a good shampoo and conditioner, your baby should end up with the new growth being much much nicer. 5 or 6 months is a good time to cut off the puppy hair and give the head a nice shorter cut, and then you can let it grow again to see how much differnce there is. just keep in mind their coat changes many times untill their adult coat comes in compleatly.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Yorkies with silky coats often go through a period from about 14 weeks to 6 months where the hair is thin. Joey had the additional problem of having pure white roots with black hair, making him look balding. There's really nothing you can do, I found keeping it short helped, since you couldn't see as much black, but gradually it got much thicker. His hair went from white to beige and now it turning a little darker gold. It does seem that cotton coated yorkies have thicker hair when they are puppies, but their coats are much more difficult to upkeep. He's a little duck, waiting to turn into a swan.
