Did You Get Your Yorkie from a Petstore or Breeder?? Did you get your Yorkie from a Petstore, were you satisfied with your purchase, was the dog healhy? Did it have a good temperament? How old was your puppy when you purchased him and how old is he now? |
nope nope nope, lol. adopted from a friend of a friend. he's 7, we've had him for 2 months. |
Never buy from a petstore..those pets come from puppy mills! If you have a good breeder, they would never have to sell their puppies to a pet store. I did buy a shih tzu from one almost 11 years ago before I knew better, well, she's not full blooded shih tzu, and I was lucky that I lucked out in her, but, never again will I ever buy from one..BAD NEWS |
Do not buy your puppy from a pet store. They are from puppy mills. There are many dogs who live good, healthy lives that are from pet stores, but there are also the heartbreaks. And their mom is still back at the mill delivering litter after litter. Search "pet store" and "puppy mill" on here and it will give you a better understanding. My first yorkie, Bandit, was from a pet store. I got him when he was 10 weeks old. For the first while, he was happy and healthy. But then he started having seizures. When he was just 14 weeks old, he had to be put to sleep due to liver shunt (among other problems). It was devestating. PLEASE do not support the millers who put families and dogs through this for their own greed. |
I would never buy from a pet store! I wont go in pet store that even sells pets...breaks my heart  I got my lovie dovies from a private breeder  |

I got my Hooks from a breeder and I am extremely happy. He is healthy beyond being a little chubby. I got him when he was 8 weeks and he is now 10 weeks. I don't think there are even any petstores in my area, but I am not completely sure. I also got my shih tzu from a breeder and she wasn't very good. He was healthy physically, but he has some serious emotional issues that we had to work out. He is my baby now. |
Hi, this is my first post here. :) We got our Yorkie from a pet store, but I wouldn't I would recommend it. We got Jasper when he was eight weeks old (now I know that is too early to be selling puppies) and it was a big ordeal. First of all, he was very weak when we got him. We weren't sure if he was going to be okay or not.. After a few days he was fine. He's perfectly healthy and hyper now at 14 weeks. Also if you can believe it, the store told us he was a girl... The pet store gave us a pink collar and blanket, and we picked out a girl name and bought girl doggy accessories before realizing after two days that he was a boy. For some reason, It never occurred to us to check. Anyways, we love him very much and he is adorable/playful. It's better off that he is a boy, because we have a male Miniature Schnauzer and I don't know how that would have worked out. |
I got Canyon from a YT Breeder. He's healthy and beautiful. I'm very happy and hope to get another, maybe two more from this breeder. |
i got my babies from two seperate private breeders.. im lucky that they are both healthy and happy! :) |
I got chester from a breeder who is now a good friend. He is a love bug and he was 8 wks old when I got him and he was 6 yrs old last month. |
HI I got Max from a Pet store. I looked for a very long time and I was unable to find a breeder or a rescue that would adopt to me because I have Greyhounds. They did not think that I knew my dogs well enough to understand if they had a high prey drive and would hurt the "tiny" dog. I got Max when he was 6 months old...and I don't think that I could have found a better dog that fit the wants and needs that I had. He is a very healthy 4# and gets along well with ALL the dogs here. I am not one to say always get from a pet store, but they do serve a need. I have even tried to adopt from someone on here recently and was again turned down because of the Greys. So you do what you are comfortable with. And GOOD LUCK!! |
I got Littlebit and Princess from two separate breeders. No major health problems so far. Littlebit is 4 yrs and Princess is 3 yrs. Chico and Jasper are the puppies of Littlebit and Princess so i guess they came from a mommy breeder? Thats how i ended up with 4, just couldnt let them go:rolleyes: |
I forgot to say that i got littlebit when he was about 12 weeks old and Princess was about16 weeks old. The most i have spent in vet care so far is xrays when princess was pregnant and teeth cleanings, among the normal shots, wormings, etc. I got Chico and Jasper as soon as they were born:D....good health so far there too. I have been real lucky with my babies and i hope it stays that way! |
I got Ivy from a rescue but she is very shy. Ivy is the dog that had all the puppies to give the pet stores.:(:( So Please don't go to a pet store they are not good puppies and you pay as much for them as going to a breeder. Max was a rehome he is 9 months and doing great. |
I got mine from a breeder aabout 2 hrs from my House. They were both 8 weeks when I got them they are going on 4 now. They both had good temperments and they both still do except sometimes they bark more than we would likle them, to |
I adopted my Yorkie from a reputable breeder on a non-breeding contract at 6 months of age. The breeder had purposely held her back. I am proud to say that she is now a loveable and content spayed 3 yr old who enjoys obedience and her new little furry sister. I cannot convey just how wonderful an experience it can be with a reputable breeder, nor the joy of having a well-adjusted, well-bred, and healthy furbaby. |

We got Baxter from a couple who "accidently" let their 2 yorkies alone when the girl was in Heat. Baxter was 8 weeks old. He is very healthy and weighs 7 lbs at 10 months. My husband says he has trained us very well. The only issue we have had is finding the perfect food for his sensitive stomach. Finally found Chicken Soup and that did the trick. |
I pick up Chloe from the breeder on Sunday(YAY!!!) I went with a breeder because the pet store scene just did'nt seem reasonable price wise...I honestly did'nt know anything about puppy mills at the time..now that I do Know, I will NEVER buy a pet from a pet store...espcially when there are so many well respected breeders out here!! |
We got Hot Rod from a pet store. After learning about puppy mills I was worried that he may become ill as he was very small when we got him, 1.5 lbs at 15 weeks. Gald to say that at 14 mos he is healthy and happy. He has always had the sweetest and most gentle temperament, he is just a lovey dovey. Maggie is 6 mos and was from a local breeder at 11 weeks. She is very sweet and is my little terror. She is also very small and healthy. She was very timid and still is but she is starting to come into her own now. |
Please don't support puppymills by purchasing from a pet store. Ramsey and Reggie were purchased from breeders located in the western part of Va. She was 10 weeks old and Reggie was 12 weeks old. Reese was a gift from my good friend, Mustangbee. :) He was right at 15 weeks when I flew out to pick him up. All of mine are wonderfully healthy. |
I got my first Yorkie Maļa as a gift . I found later that she was from a pet store and was only 5 weeks old . She gave me 18 beautiful years . Actually , my little ones are all rescued ones . |
I got Lulu from a pet store, but she is perfectly healthy. I got her at 8 weeks, she is 9 months old now and as happy as a cherub. |
We got our Ally from a breeder. She was 8 weeks old - 1Lb and 8oz. Ally was very small when we got her and had sugar problems for a week or two. But, she got over it and is doing just great. She is our wonderful "Kiss Baby" and is our Sophie's little sister. Sophie is a Bichon and loves her Ally. They really get along so good. |
Please Please Please dont buy from a pet store!! If no one is buying them, then the puppy mills wont have the high demand! If you buy from a pet store, your buying from a puppy mill  |
I got Bella from someone who had a litter of 8 and couldn't keep them, but she had also not had any vaccinations yet either. (puppy cost=$150) No papers. No non-breeding/mandatory spaying clause. No health issues, other than dry skin. She is 7.5 months old and I've had her for 2.5 months. She is the BEST!!! She doesn't bark incessantly when I am home. (can't speak for when I am not) The only time she does bark is when she is scared. She loves to cuddle. She is everything you could want in a furbaby. I wouldn't trade her for all the dark chocolate in the world!!! |

Please buy your furbaby from a reputable breeder you trust, one who will be ethical and honest! We need to help stop puppy mills and the suffering these poor dogs go thru. The best way to stop it is to NOT support it. |
Jaywil I got my Yorkie from a breeder in Sutton, Massachusetts. She has been under considerable scrutiny over possibly having obtained her dogs from a puppy mill. My little girl is almost 2 years old now and is well and beautiful, so other than having been overcharged, I am happy. |

I have a 7 year old doxie from a breeder- she has been wonderful. Then we got a mini doxie, Ollie from a pet store, and he is the smartest dog, never been sick, and did really well ( this is a known pet store, and the vet i used to work for would vaccinate these puppies as they would come in, and if they were sick, we would take care of them) Fiona, is from a breeder across the street from me, and she has been awesome thus far! I guess it really depends on how they were brought up in that fragile puppy time, and giving away...... |
