| what to put in the room for puppy when we leave? We have a new yorkie puppy, Lucy and she is the love of our lives already! We do work and have to leave her alone from 9-noon and again from 1-3 each day-we have been putting her in the bathroom with a baby gate until her larger crate comes from the pet store via mail- What do we put in the room? I know a blanket and toy- bed of course but I am confused about if I should put newspaper or a puppy pad in the room and also food and or water? I am thinking water for sure- I am reading many different things-and want to do what is best for her- she is only 8 weeks old- please advise~~~ Also, she loves wet food but has loose stools? Should we go with dry? She does not have all of her teeth???? Again- any advice appreciated- Lucy's mom~~~ |

| if i could remember, when lexi was a puppy, i left her wee pad, dry food, water, toys, comfy blanket to lay on, and music to listen to or tv close by so she can hear.

| for the potty training i think the best thing i did was crating Bentley. 1. it teaches them to hold it better for periods of time, and 2. just for his own safety since puppies like to explore and get into things. I would always leave him a bone and a couple toys in his crate to keep him occupied during the time im gone. And everytime i put him in i would say "crate". and now he goes in on his own when i say it , he knows mommy has to leave for while, which he isn't too crazy about because he cries when i walk out of the room, but i feel better knowing that hes safe and not getting into things. Make sure when you get home you take her right outside and when you get to the place in the yard you want her to potty you say "outside" so that way she can associate the two, pottying outside is good. Also lots of praise is called for in the potty training process! Good luck! let us know how you make out!

| I striclty did pee pads..I didn't want to have to be on a schedule to let the dogs out, now, they're all older(youngest one is 3), and this way, hubby and I can go away for a night, put down clean pee pads, fresh water, (food is down 24/7) and not have to worry about being home to let them outside. Mine do go out in the back once a day to play outside when it's warm if the grass is dry.. |
