Pretty sure I lost a customer today, while trying to "educate" them....

It's too bad the lady that brought her poodle in couldn't see the pain my retriever goes through..she has to be on pain pills plus rimadyl for arthritis every day the rest of her life..just because of a breeder that only saw dollar signs..most likely our retrivers litter mates also have the hip dysplasia..so this lady doesn't care about the pain she would be putting her dog through nor its puppies..you did good by telling her that, then I would have also told her to ask her vet..if she has a decent vet, he would tell her NOT to breed the dog..

Hey!! don't be sorry!! You didn't offend me at all!! You gave your opinion and I gave mine....this tends to be a very opinionated place You can't legally give a patient medical advice. I can give my customers my opinion. If I see something that may be a problem, I point it out to my customers and tell them to have their vet check it. If I see a customer making an uneducated move like breeding a very small poodle with severe hip displaysia, I very nicely try to explain to them why it's probably not a good idea. If you gave medical advice to a patient you would probably loose your rn liscense. I could loose the business of a customer, but I would rather take that chance than see a dog suffer.

I think it's amazing that you care enough about your customers and their parents to point out what you see and advise them to see a vet. Sometimes while grooming you can catch something others might have missed. Thanks for lending a hand!!
