				   | Last night on our local (I live in Central Florida near Orlando) news there was a story about two dogs who had died after being left outside all day in record-breaking temperatures tied on a concrete driveway. There was no shade for them and no water provided by the 14 year old boy whose mother had told him to take care of them after school. He apparently had better things to do and didn't bother to check on them. The local police are considering pressing charges against the woman but I think maybe they should simply put the boy in the same spot, same situation and see if that jogs his mind any or at the very least, make him do community service picking up trash, in the sun for a minimum of 8 hours straight in 97 degree heat and see how he likes it. Of course, some bleeding hearts would want him to have water but I believe the punishment should fit the crime to really make an impression. It just made me sick! Please, tell everyone you know about the dangers of the heat to their pets - it takes almost no time at all for this weather to cause brain damage and death - lets use this tragedy to make the point that if we're miserable, SO ARE THEY!!!! And just think, they're wearing coats! I know they say their fur helps cool them somehow, but I have long hair and it makes me twice as hot to leave it down... Sorry for rambling - this was just so sad, to see them hauled off in black garbage bags by animal control... Dana |

				   | WOW, that is horrible, I totally agree with your thinking. The punishment SHOULD fit the crime, alot of things would be different if it was like that. I also understand, the long hair thing,, if its hot ,mine is up. My Bf always says ,I like your hair down,, I say " ya , me too , but its way too hot on my neck and back"

				   | Yikes, you know what really frightens me is that people in our society are so stupid that despite the fact that in recent years there has been a lot of publicity about the effect of heat on dogs yet they still do not get it! On another note I really do not think brutalizing people is the way to teach them that dogs and other living creatures are entitled to sensitivity and good treatment. I am all for punishing people for animal abuse, in fact I think laws should be stricter, but I think as a whole if our culture could get over this strange psuedo blood lust we have you would find animals treated much more humanely!

				   | How sad for these dogs. I cant imagine how painful it must have been standing on hot concrete that long.

				   | Yes I agree, both should be held accountable! I just don't understand how anyone could think it would be ok to leave dogs outside in the hot weather on concrete. Yes I know he was a kid, but he was an old enough kid to understand that it was too hot to leave animals outside in the sun! Those poor little babies, suffered for no reason at all!! It makes me so sad to think about what their last moments had to have been like! |

				   | Yeah, see this is ridiculous! It's no different then leaving a child inside a car in the hot weather-BOTH are stupid things! Don't do this. It breaks my heart. I know most of us here feel as though our Yorkies are our babies-just like kids to us.

I think the deaths of those dogs was horrible too. Hopefully they did not die in vain and their story will prevent others from a similar fate. Thanks for making us aware even though it was sad. | |
