No Longer a Member | Just got my puppy home HELP!! He seems to be humping his toy that I got from him (and of course crying a little, but I think that is normal). He is 9 weeks and 2lbs. The breeder said call whenever, but I don't want to do it literally after I just got home. He is literally just chewing and humping his blanket after a few chews. |

| My lil' Yorkie only humps blankets and fleece. I couldn't stop him, so I went to PetSmart and asked a trainer. She told me to pick up a little spray bottle and just put water in it. Whenever he humps, she told me to spray him in the chest or shoulder area. It has been 2-3 days and he has not humped since *knock on wood*. They said do NOT spray a Yorkie in the face, because they are so little they will get timid and very very scared. Try it, it worked wonders for me! Let me know if it works. Boa Sorte (Good luck)!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey humped as a puppy too, we didn't do anything to stop it; it's just a show of dominance. It is related to the hormone, testosterone, and most dogs stop after being neutered, but while the testicles of the male make the bulk of testosterone, the adrenal glands in males and females make some too, and this varies greatly between dogs. Some people get really upset by this, but he seems a little young for the spray bottle, most dogs are still with mama at 9 weeks. It's recommended that Yorkies stay with mama till a minimum of 12 weeks, and I doubt if mama would have stopped it, I think he's just lonely. Congratulations on your new puppy!

Yah they do but not as MUCH as BOYS!!! LOL And a spray bottle works wonders! lol Plus if you know how to deal with dominant females it's not as hard to stop as with males. To the OP....I did use a spray bottle with Daizy for unwanted behavior...chewing on things she wasnt supposed to ...etc...and it worked!! I totally forgot about that until I read a different thread...Good luck...you can get the Humpty dumpty under control! lol

| Me three, that and because of the vertical spraying...., but I had a boy once, little boy, and a big old Lasha girl....but he would only hump her AFTER they came from the groomers and she was all clean and smelled pretty. So she would come home (after of 35.00 grooming bill), and jump in my scum filled ornamental pond in the back yard so she would stink and he would leave her alone. It was fun around here.

| I have 3 males and 1 female. 2 of them do that. The female will do it only in her crate. She has one of those square flat beds and she will roll that thing up and hump away haha. The male will only hump his little stuffed animal. They dont do it all the time, just when they get the itch haha

| Chip started humping at 5 months and there is no stopping him. The only thing he humps are his beds and I think it's a dominance thing. He claims every bed as HIS even though he refuses to sleep on them. I can't even keep a bed in the crate because as soon as I do, he pulls it right back out and starts humping it. Wait until his red rocket starts coming out... I didn't know they could get as long as they could!!!

| Rusty started doing this with his blanket the first week we got him. At his peak it was a daily activity but now that he's almost 2 he only does it a few times a week (he's not neutered). |

| It's normal. Froto has a special hippo he "bounces" on. If you get him neutered, it will slow and stop!

No Longer a Member | Thanks so much. So can I start the spray bottle so young? I am horrible with discipline so I was hoping he would be a great puppy until 12 weeks and then I could get a trainer to help me. Oh well. |

| my 2 cents -- he's so young to be away from his mum and original home, he will need some time to adjust. as long as he's not humping people, I would consider letting him be, and trying to distract him with another toy or play. i think in a few weeks, he will fell secure in his home and you will both get more out of spraying and other training methods. i think he's releasing some stress and anxiety right now, and at 9wks, i wouldn't be comfortable spraying.
