| Question for Biewer Mommies re: Coats I've never had the privilege of meeting a Biewer in person. I say privilege b/c they seem so huggable from the beautiful pictures I've seen here from scrapndee, breezaway, Jeri C. and other Biewer mommies. I've seen threads comparing personality characteristics with Yorkies, but what about coats? I imagine there's great variability like in Yorkies, but I was wondering if the genes contributing to the coloring of standard Biewers have made some coat characteristics more common? The pictures I've seen have made me wonder if Biewers on the whole have thicker hair, or whether that was just true of those particular furbies.

| Hi Shana, I own three Biewers. And not one of them has a true silk coat. They have very thick, more cottony coats. Personally...I have seen very few Biewers with a silk coat. But there are some out there. Also...none of my Biewers eyes shine green or blue in pictures. However, I recently purchased a little parti yorkie who does look to have the silk coat and does have the green eye shine when photographed. 1st pic is a Biewer 2nd pic is a parti yorkie |

| I have 4 Biewers...my 3 girls are litter mates and my male is from a different line and breeder. My 3 girls all felt the same as puppies...unbelievably soft, thick hair that felt like a Chinchila. Now, at 1 year old, they are different but I should say that Molly has already had a puppy cut so she has her total adult coat and it is a 'normal' silk coat that does not tangle...her eyes do glow turquoise green in most of her pictures. Megan and Maddie have not had a puppy cut so they still have a combination of the cottony puppy hair and adult hair coming in...they are going in for puppy cuts on the 16th so it will be interesting to see how their coat comes in after that. They both have a thicker coat with tons of flowing hair but Maddie has more of a combination than Megan. My male has never had a puppy cut and he has a thick, soft, silk coat that does not tangle. I have had Yorkies for 25 years or more and I can tell you that the coat on a Biewer is different but it can't be described...it has to be touched to understand. Most Biewers appear larger than they actually are and it's because of their coats...get them wet or give them a haircut and you'd be shocked at their actual size! I was amazed when I saw my first Biewer in Orlando last year...it was love at first sight! |

oh wow, they're gorgeous. The little guy's pose and shirt just crack me up. What are they're names? What is the correlation btwn eye reflection and coats? I've heard a couple of people mention it, but not sure what it means or how it happens?

I would love to have one, it must be so much fun (and work!) to have 4. They DO seem bigger in pictures! I actually thought they might run a bit larger than Yorkies but didn't realize it was all that fluffy goodness. Would love to see pics of your babies if you have them...will check the picture forum in case you have before. Thanks again!

| Hi Shana...they do run a bit larger than Yorkies, in most cases, but I actually like them that way. Of course, there are Biewers of all sizes just like there are Yorkies of all sizes but the true German Biewer is a heavier boned dog than the traditional Yorkie. Here is my crew...Megan never holds her ears up, even though she can when she wants to, and my girls do have a black saddle but you can't see it from the angle I took the picture. Molly is the very light one on the left, she's blue and light gold...Megan is in the back...Maddie is in front in the middle with her right ear up and the left one trying to come up...and that's my male, Murfee on the right. They were at the kitchen gate waiting for their morning Cheerio's. They all look so fat but when you give them a bath they look so little! |

It is said that if the eyes of a yorkie reflects green or blue in a picture...it will have a silk coat. Red or amber reflections usually mean they will have the thicker cottony coats. | |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Coats are so different. Itzi has a silk coat. Abbi has a coarse coat. Cruiser has a combination coat--with more silk. Gabbi has a silk coat. Emme has a cottony coat. GeeGee has a silk coat. And colors are different too. I find the biewers are not as fragile as the Yorkie but they have a much calmer nature. |
