| is it possible When we first brought Smokey home, he was a dark steel gray and had silver roots growing in. We decided to cut all of his puppy hair off because it got matted so easily so now he's all silver. I looked at him the other day though and noticed that it looks like his roots are growing in dark steel gray again. Is this possible?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The hair is weird and changes quite a bit the first two years. It seems lighter at the roots than it does as it grows, so many Yorkies who get shaved down look really light.

| Often a yorkie will be darker at the roots of the blue showing good saturation of pigment. As far as his color deepening up over time it depends on his line. Connor broke to a lighter blue and than deepened as he matured, he has a pup that just started showing that is doing the same. They'll keep you guessing until they are about 2 years old so enjoy the ride!
