| Did you all have this? Did your babies have antibiotics after getting spayed? Especially with those with smaller yorkies. The vet recommends it and I will do it, but I just want to make sure that it's a normal thing and to see if anyone's had a reaction to the antibiotics.

| Yes, Bella did get antibiotics as well as pain killers. Both in the form of liquid that I had to give to her by a dropper. She was on antibiotics for 10 days, 2 times a day. And the pain killer was for 4 days, once a day. Or something like that. But yes, its normal. Also, the only thing they gave me for Bella to keep her away from her stiches was a e-collar. Worked just fine.

| Any weird reactions to either pain killers or antibiotics?? I don't know if I want to give pain killers. She's so small I feel like that's too much in her tiny body for anti's and pain meds. What do you think?

| hhhmmm...Bella had just gotten to be 3 lbs. when she was spayed at 6 months. She did fine on both, no reactions whatsoever. I debated on whether we should continue with her pain meds on the 2 day and tried to hold off on giving it to her but she seemed a little tender and pained so we gave it to her, after the 4th day, she seemed fine and we discontinued the pain meds. I mean, they are just like us, when I had my appendix removed, I was in pain for like a week (or two!), I needed the pain meds, she would too. Yes, they are small, but the dosage they recommend you give to them should cater to their size. I know you are worried Noebella, I'm sure you can tell whether she's in pain or not, its a mother's instinct!

| I'm in tears right now, I'm so worried..I know it's stupid because it's a regular procedure but I just can't help but worry. I'm just worried that I will get a call where her vet says "I'm sorry we did all we could for her but she was just so small".

| Ohhh...Noebella, its not stupid at all. Trust me, I cried the night before, cried that morning and cried on the phone with my boyfriend as I dropped her off. Its perfectly normal to worry, she is very lucky to have a mom like you who cares so much! It is a normal procedure and just be confident in your vet, trust that they will do a good job and CoCo will be ok. Take solace in the fact that vets have to go through Medical School to get to be where they are! Just know in your heart that you are doing the right thing for her in the long run, to keep her healthy and around longer. I'm sure they wouldnt operate on her unless they know that its safe. When I approached my vet about spaying Bella, she was only 2 lbs. They said to wait a bit longer so that she'd be at least 3 lbs. Thats what they felt comfortable with doing, every vet is different.

| I know. I'm confident in my vet, but it's like when I start having the fears/doubts, I feel like is that my gut instinct telling me not to go through with it yet, or is it just fear? Because if I cancel I will just have to go through this whole mess again. Everytime I look at her I want to cry when I think about what I'm putting her through. I know by saturday I will be laughing at myself because she will be back to her old self again. Thanks for being there for me.

| I have a suggestion, it might provide some peace of mind to you. How about you start a poll on YT asking how much other people's Yorkies weighed and how old they were when they got spayed. It might be a lot more common then we thought that they are spayed at the weight that CoCo is at and that might give you some comfort in knowing that its been done.

| Esme had pills, but I don't remember if they were pain killers or antibiotics? I only remember giving it to her the first day or two so I guess they were pain killers. It is normal to cry and be worried!

| Great Idea about the polls. I just posted it. Maybe that will ease my mind a bit.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Magic and Sailor both got pain killers after their surgeries...neither one had a bad reaction to it!! We didn't recieve any antiboites or anything like that, but Magic got some medicine to calm her stomach since she was so little, they were concerned with her throwing up but we only had to use it once... CoCo is going to do great...just trust in your vet and buy her a new toy to come home to...she will forgive you immediately...

| Nobella, I had a newborn pup on anitbiotics once (he was stuck in the birth canal-actually his hind end was out but the front was stuck, and it was a dry birth). Anyway, he was put on antibiotics becuase blood came out of his little peer from all of the stress. Cleared right up with no problems. Then this last litter of mine all 4 were on it because 1 got the sniffles then they all got the sniffles from eating at the same buffet. It shouldn't hurt your baby girl in the slightest. Everything is going to be ok, you just wait and see. |
