Puppy Prices Why do some people charge $400 for a yorkie and others charge $1,200 for the same size dog. What is the difference? |
they are worth 1200.. but the economy is bad.. values for everything extra have dropped.. its a financial crisis... watch the news:eek: |
I think pedigree, location, and size all figure in the price of a Yorkie. They are cheaper in the midwest than in California where I live. |
jmo too many puppies on the market supply and demand |
I just paid the down payment for my yorkie and he is $1000 total. I won't get him for another month. I think the difference has to do with size, color and if he is AKC registered. I know my breeder stated he came from championship lines. I am getting limited registration meaning I can't breed him but if I wanted to have the unlimited registration I'd have to pay $1400. So that matters too. Also, I do believe that some people advertise to sell yorkies for really cheap and it's a scam. So you have to be careful. |
When I was looking around for my furbaby, the price range was $800-$3000. Depending on the breeder. I also think that maybe the breeder will charge more for a puppy if it was from a really small litter, sometimes only one puppy from a small mommy dog. |
My sister is a breeder and they range from $1500 to $1800 but they have a 1 year health guarantee, all shots, microchipped, AKC registration, bloodline of Champions and Best in Show, they are all in house raised and well socialized, most of the time by the time they go home at 3 months, they are pee pad trained and leash trained as well as car ready (use to being in cars) they come with dog food, beds, blankets, clothes, leashes and other little specialty items and of course their baby book so I think price can have a lot to do with some of those things rather than someone just handing you a puppy and taking your check. Everyone is different but the most important thing is what is important to you....you will HOPEFULLY have your baby for up to 15-20 years. You need to fall in love and be happy with your choice. I love my girl and if it was a bidding war, I would have sold my soul to get her...get what you love...it will be worth every dime!! |

That's really funny. I guess it depends on what you want to pay for a puppy. In Alabama they sell for around $600, and that is for AKC champion bloodline, the whole nine yards. My male is 2 yrs old, weighs alittle over 3 lbs and cost me $250 and is in excellent health. Some of you paid $2400.00 for the same dog. Don't you think someone is getting ripped off?:p |
Maybe not ripped off but definitely has something to do with location. I saw some beautiful babies in Indiana, but I would of had to fly and pick her up etc. Me personally, I haven't seen an AKC yorkie here in California under 1500, thats just seems to be the way it is :) I bet our gas is higher too..its the lowest I have seen in months at $3.63...what about in Alabama? |

Champion blood lines is a factor. Some breeders are very proud of their lines and to preserve them the cost of one of their dogs goes up. There are breeders out there that are selling small dogs and trying to breed for a small size and telling the public they are getting a rare and unique dog so they boost up the cost of such animals only to find they need alot of vet erinarian care. Before buying or before breeding research and consider everything all angles before going ahead. |

i paid $600 for Suzi . The breeder was way out the city though. |
i think the value should be 1200 minimum and higher for higher standards.. but the prices have dropped considerably since 2007 especially online buyers beware..:eek:you should always go to the breeders kennel before buying.. lots of posers online :thumbdown with impressive websites and cheaper dogs.. its a sad world these days:animal-pa the low price can indicate a puppy mill scam:thumbdown |
I highly doubt a 400 dollar puppy has had any type of testing for genetic diseases and I doubt the sire/dam have been tested either. I expect both of these... |

I hope that your little guy brings you many, many years of happiness. You got a great price no doubt. |
I paid $50 for my newest Yorkie from a rescue. He is a year and a half old - perfect health, no papers. All my Yorkies have been rescues. They have all been purebreds. Two had papers, the rest did not. I call them my little garage sale babies. |
My boy was $350 at 2 years old and all he came with was him! We got him from another family that couldn't keep him. He did come potty trained (although, there was a set back once he got here) and from a family with small kids (which we needed). All of those things were worth gold to me. |
Puppy cost ?? I have a litter of AKC Yorkie pups.I'm in orlando, Fl. I sold 2 already 1 M 1 Fm.The Fm was 1.1 the M 2.1 at 10 weeks.Had the shots Health Cert.I only Breed 1 Fm in are Family Home.I sold are Fm pup for $1100 And the Male for $900 I think that was a good price they were cute as could be Teddy Bear Faces short body.I give at least 7 to 10 hours a day with my pups.so If you add the vet cost and the time put in you really see I'm a small time puppy Breeder. We do it because we love Yorkies and are Honey is so cute everyone ask for one of her pups.So we want to share what we have with others. When they come out looking like mine do you Love Yorkies so much to make someone elce enjoy that to in their life. All in all I will make about 800.00 off this deal of 4 pups 2 Fm 2 M.I home school my daughter who has Spinal Bifida and try to use the $ made to save for her Medical care after she turns 18.So not every Breeder is a bad one.But the ones who are Puppy mills make it hard for a small timer like me to even make a $1000 out of the litter.Wish you all the Best of Luck with your Baby Yorkie Buys.Check thing out before you buy a puppy.Make sure you are really getting what you paid for. |
I know prices on everything is different everywhere, but I didn't realize how outragious dogs are. Here at the most a tiny akc yorkie with chanpionship bloodlines, microchip, genetic tests everything you people are paying thousands for run around $800.00 and that is for top breeders not backyard breeders. And alot of you buy the dog at such a high price that they tell you if you want breeding rights that's another $200. Did you know to akc register a puppy only cost around $20 bucks. Now who's getting scammed?:D |
The cost of registering a litter with AKC remains the same regardless if later on...the puppies themselves have full registration or limited. I highly doubt the cost of registration has anything to do with someone providing breeding rights. I'd be real interested to know the breeders information who provide all that you mentioned for $800. too. |
There is no doubt in my mind that you are one of those high priced breeders!:p That's not a bad idea though. You could buy their puppies and sell them for a couple of thousand each. |
I dont want to sound mean i have been a breeder for alot of years and i have had show and pet babies. Also from Champion bloodlines .. I do all the testing as well and give them alot of gifts.. Only if i have a C-Section is the only reason i raise the price a few dollars.. You can have a great yorkie rather it is 400 or 4 thousand . the most reason that breeders raise the high dollar is greed.. I dont want to hear that it is not because of the money .. People know everyone wants a sweet little yorkie and anything over $1200. is just way to much... I have went down on prices at times way down because there are people that would make great mommy and daddys to a yorkie but just dont have that kind of money to give at one time... If it makes you feel better taking all of this money from people the go ahead.. I bet if you would go to some of these places on line you will find they are just back yard breeders and others trying to make a buck... Wake up people.... everyone likes money..... |

Brodi Mom, thank you so much, you just made my point for me. I always hear how the backyard breeder is a scam. But all of you breeders that charge an outragious price, you are the ones that're the scammers. I don't see how you can live with yourselfs. Yorkies are a wonderful breed, and like Brodi Mom said, there's alot of good mommys out there that can't afford such a price. To be honest even if I could afford it I would not pay $2000 for a puppy. What's the point, just to be able to say it cost so much. If people would stop paying these high prices I assure you they would drop. And you could still get the same quality puppy for a whole lot less.:aimeeyork |
This happened to me last weekend. I was invited to a baby shower. The girl wanted a particular swing. Target had it for $169 but, Walmart had the exact same swing for $119. This swing is a material thing, not a living breathing furbaby. My point is, everyone who is purchasing a puppy has GOT to do their homework and be responsible when purchasing a pet. Yes, the prices are going to vary, there is usually a reason for that. My baby was expensive, I know that. But, she is what I wanted and I had been looking for 6 months before I found her. I know I didn't get ripped off by the price I paid. |
bchgirl, so you are NOT a breeder? |
Gerry if you want a yorkie email me and i can fix you up .. or help you find one. or if you want to chat email me anytime. |
Price $$ a lot to spend but I had to have them I just bought 2 Fm Parti Yorkie And a Fm Carrier Parti.Fm Part was $5000.Now thats going to be my new Breeder Fm's in a year from now.I think they are so special and Wow the tri color is Astonishing for sure.Hope for a nice litter in 2009.Now that was a lot of bread to spend on them.I do not feel riped off at all.I checked many wed sites and they are all the same price everywhere. We LOVE are new Parti Yorkie Girls. |
Im glad you are happy with your party yorkies .. but if you read the standard that is actually a genitic defect .. the standard of yorkies AKC are Blue and tan or black and tan.. the choc. golden and party are all genitic defects.. Just another way to get extra money ... Im sorry but this just buggs me . that people with the way things are in this world that people are still pulling these stunts.. sorry guys .. the money that you use to buy these choc. parti. etc.. are just a waste of money..... |
