| Puppy Prices Why do some people charge $400 for a yorkie and others charge $1,200 for the same size dog. What is the difference?

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I think pedigree, location, and size all figure in the price of a Yorkie. They are cheaper in the midwest than in California where I live.

| I just paid the down payment for my yorkie and he is $1000 total. I won't get him for another month. I think the difference has to do with size, color and if he is AKC registered. I know my breeder stated he came from championship lines. I am getting limited registration meaning I can't breed him but if I wanted to have the unlimited registration I'd have to pay $1400. So that matters too. Also, I do believe that some people advertise to sell yorkies for really cheap and it's a scam. So you have to be careful.

| When I was looking around for my furbaby, the price range was $800-$3000. Depending on the breeder. I also think that maybe the breeder will charge more for a puppy if it was from a really small litter, sometimes only one puppy from a small mommy dog. |

| My sister is a breeder and they range from $1500 to $1800 but they have a 1 year health guarantee, all shots, microchipped, AKC registration, bloodline of Champions and Best in Show, they are all in house raised and well socialized, most of the time by the time they go home at 3 months, they are pee pad trained and leash trained as well as car ready (use to being in cars) they come with dog food, beds, blankets, clothes, leashes and other little specialty items and of course their baby book so I think price can have a lot to do with some of those things rather than someone just handing you a puppy and taking your check. Everyone is different but the most important thing is what is important to you....you will HOPEFULLY have your baby for up to 15-20 years. You need to fall in love and be happy with your choice. I love my girl and if it was a bidding war, I would have sold my soul to get her...get what you love...it will be worth every dime!! |

| That's really funny. I guess it depends on what you want to pay for a puppy. In Alabama they sell for around $600, and that is for AKC champion bloodline, the whole nine yards. My male is 2 yrs old, weighs alittle over 3 lbs and cost me $250 and is in excellent health. Some of you paid $2400.00 for the same dog. Don't you think someone is getting ripped off?

| Maybe not ripped off but definitely has something to do with location. I saw some beautiful babies in Indiana, but I would of had to fly and pick her up etc. Me personally, I haven't seen an AKC yorkie here in California under 1500, thats just seems to be the way it is I bet our gas is higher too..its the lowest I have seen in months at $3.63...what about in Alabama? |

Champion blood lines is a factor. Some breeders are very proud of their lines and to preserve them the cost of one of their dogs goes up. There are breeders out there that are selling small dogs and trying to breed for a small size and telling the public they are getting a rare and unique dog so they boost up the cost of such animals only to find they need alot of vet erinarian care. Before buying or before breeding research and consider everything all angles before going ahead. | |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | i think the value should be 1200 minimum and higher for higher standards.. but the prices have dropped considerably since 2007 especially online buyers beware..you should always go to the breeders kennel before buying.. lots of posers online with impressive websites and cheaper dogs.. its a sad world these days the low price can indicate a puppy mill scam

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I highly doubt a 400 dollar puppy has had any type of testing for genetic diseases and I doubt the sire/dam have been tested either. I expect both of these...
