| 2 Week Old Puppies My female Yorkie, Kya, is 6 lbs & had her 1st litter, 6 puppies, 9/6/08. I also own the Sire who is 4 lbs. 5 weighed 2 oz. & the smallest female was only 1.5 oz. Now 17 days later all are between 11.5 & 10.5 oz. except 1 male who's 6 oz. but gaining OK now & the smallest female who has been 4 oz. for the last 11 days & now today 3.5 oz. I started feeding her 1 on 1 with Kya late last week & have been trying to supplement her with puppy formula, Esbilac. Is there anything else I can do & is she too young to try a little Nutra-cal? I started getting up early before work today to feed her, my husband came home at noon & had Kya nurse her & at 3:30 PM I came home & had Kya nurse her & also gave her a little formula. The milk is not coming out of her nose, she seems to be latching on ok & nurses vigorously, I can see her tongue, & she'll crawl over to Kya to nurse with the rest. I'm just concerned she's starting to loose weight. I'll appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks, Debi |

| Losing weight is a very bad sign. Even a very tiny puppy should be gaining at least a small amount every day. Has she been examined by a vet? If you have been supplementing and giving her extra nursing time she should still be gaining. Is she alone all day except at lunchtime? I know a lot of people here are big on nutrical but I have never used it. You could try a very small drop but from what I know this can cause diahrrea which would complicate things further. |
