I have a question, what the heck do you do with the bangs while growing them out? I want to do a ponytail, and eventualy a top knot. but this hair is not long enough for either, but it is starting to get in his eyes, and Im trying very hard not to cut his bangs.

I just dont have any Idea what to do with it. do you just leave it hang over their eyes untill its long enough to put up? he is only 5 months old, so his hair on his head is very fine, I thought about a barrett, but I dont think it will stay in, due to the fineness. if I dont figure out something soon, Im gonna have to make my kids hide the sissors from me, (HELP!!)

My Krissie is 5 months old too and I feel your pain. I can't keep a bow in her hair. I have a Maltese (Ollie) he pulls them out. When Ollie's bangs were growing out, and they still are I had to band the bangs seperately than his top knot. It is tough and yes, you will reach for those scissors every day. But you will regret it if you do. Just hang in there! Their hair grows fast...

I'm growing out Holly's bangs. They do get to that stage where you can't do anything with them. You can try parting down the middle when wet in hopes they will lay to the side of the face. If not long enough for that, use some Petsilk topknot gel to hold them up. I have also used human hair gel/wax products. It looks a little sticky but it does the trick.

I love Petsilk Topknot gel, for holding those short hairs out of their eyes, I tried Vaseline until I got the Petsilk and it works for a while, but not the whole day. Here's a link that gives some tips for putting in the topknot and growing the hair out. Casual Way to Put Dog Bows In

Abby has a nice long thick coat and I've been able to put a top knot in her hair for a long time (she's 7 months) but, the past two times she's been to the groomers, she shaved her nose! I hated it and now she has these pokey hairs that stick up when she has her top knot in. Why do groomers do that?

Anyway, I agree petsilk topknot gel is great and it helps a lot. winstonw here at YT gave me some to try and when it's all gone I'll order more.

Groomers are evil! lol...I stopped taking mine because they dont listen! Before I offend someone...there are a FEW...a very few that do know what they are doing..however, they don't live near me!

Until it is required for them to have a license...I will be the only one screwing up my pups hair!

I am also letting my little Tatum's bangs grow out so that they will become part of her top knot and I HAVE to keep it clipped back or else my poor little girl wouldn't be able to see anything

Tatum's hair is EXTREMELY thick though, and the little clips I use work pretty good for the most part (unless she goes to scratch and pulls her hair out from the clip) - but you mentioned that your baby has very thin hair - and I can sort of relate to that because my mom's Yorkie Kenzi has very thin hair on the top of her head as well. She has to use the TEENY TINY clips for her because the bigger ones like I use for Tatum are too big and with Kenzi having such thin hair on top, the clips just slide right out. In Tatum's case though, she has so MUCH hair, and it is so thick that the tinier clips won't hold it all - meaning I can't get all of her hair to fit into such a tiny little clip cause there is just too much of it lol.

SO - in other words, you may have better luck with the tiny clips since your baby has thin hair.

Here are some pictures that I posted the other day of Tatum and you can see the kind of clips I'm talking about. Most of her hair is up in a ponytail, but you can see where her bangs are shorter and this is the part that I am letting grow out

I forgot to mention the Petsilk Topknot Gel - I personally haven't tried it yet but I have heard great things about it and it is on my list of things to buy

You may want to give that a try as well

I have been reading and I don't know the appropriate age to start putting "top knots" in their hair

. I guess Bailey is way too young because her little hair just slides right through the band

. I don't know maybe it is just me doing something wrong! I wish I knew what I was doing; but I do know I am NOT bringing her to a breeder for them to mess her up. I guess I will read up and do it myself when it is time. I have the problem with the bangs in the eyes too! It makes me feel horrible every time I look at her because I don't want her to not be able to see because I want her hair long.

I am confused!

Tatum is so cute. I will have to try the clips in minnie's hair. My problem is that before my brother in law gave us the dog, he used to cut the hair near her eyes, it is so short, it will probably takes months to grow out. She will not keep a bow in her hair, buy she will keep a very small scrunch in it. I am afraid to leave her home alone with the scrunch in her hair, if she takes it out she might choke on it.

I cut Cali's topknot off when we got Roxie because she kept pulling the bows/bands right out. It is taking forever to grow backand is now to the point I can get some in but not all her hair. I tried putting a bow in the other day and Roxie had it out in seconds. I am thinking of putting bitter apple in Cali's topknot when it is long enough to put up to stop Roxie. I am so sorry I ever cut it. The gel souns like a good idea.

i didnt know they were not licensed.. so ANYONE can do it?
i would LOVE to learn and get paid to do it... any tips for training ?
i have been learning for 3 years..my poor dogs

its a chop shop at my house..

it is better to let the puppy hair grow long....imo

I understand. My prissy is a year old and she has NEVER kept a band or bow in her hair. 2 seconds after I put it in, she has it out. She is very stubborn & don't like it so she gets it out. Since she had her litter, her hair has changed so much, it seems finer & cotteny. That may sound cooky but if anyone has any tricks to get her hair normal again, holler at me.
