| need help Can anyone tell me if they have used a wireless fence for a yorkie. My baby likes to run out the front door once in a while and I'm afraid for him. I was looking at a portable wireless fence for small dogs. Anyone have a suggestion? I'm a bit frightened by the shock collars, If anyone has a suggestion I'd appreciate it. |

| I have this problem with Otis. I put 2 panels of an ex-pen in front of the front door. It gives room for people to come through the door but stops him from running out. I've never tried the wireless fence, but it makes me kinda nervous.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think they take a bit of training and quite a few shocks to learn. Joey was much more likely to dash out the door before he was neutered, so neutering helps quite a bit with this. Also there are methods that describe training a dog not to go through the door. You put the leash on the dog, open the door, and step by step train them not to run out giving them food rewards for staying. I'm sure you can find this information on the Internet. I saw it on one of Cesar's programs, but can't remember the full step-by-step process. We blocked off the front door until Joey was better trained.

| Make sure to look at the weight for these! I havn't seen any that can be used for under 10 lb dogs.

| When we had one of these fences, we couldn't leave the electric collar on the dog in the house, because if the dog got near electrical appliances he would get shocked. That was quite a long time ago, though. Maybe they've been improved since then. But, if he can't wear it in the house, it won't be on him if he sneaks out the door. Oh, the dog wasn't a Yorkie, it was a medium size mixed breed. Last edited by majic50; 08-24-2008 at 07:45 PM. |
