I think they take a bit of training and quite a few shocks to learn. Joey was much more likely to dash out the door before he was neutered, so neutering helps quite a bit with this. Also there are methods that describe training a dog not to go through the door. You put the leash on the dog, open the door, and step by step train them not to run out giving them food rewards for staying. I'm sure you can find this information on the Internet. I saw it on one of Cesar's programs, but can't remember the full step-by-step process. We blocked off the front door until Joey was better trained. |
