morkies are a great mix if well planned.. and from a good breeder.
reputable breeders simply have a good reputation.. but that takes time..:)
check references before getting any puppy:)

i was just wondering... if you were a breeder.. :animal36 cuz it is a big deal, and it costs lots of money when done right.. but i agree .. there are lots of cheaper puppies on the market.. and many are very nice puppies..:):aimeeyork

But yet, there still seems to be lack of explanation of how one can "well plan" a cross bred litter...

LOL, nah, it's nothing painful, just and explanation, and I was agreeing on the point that what one person chooses to do is their decision. :) We just don't all have to agree on it.
I think Tammi was typing basically the same thoughts at the same time as me....I think she explained the 'difference of opinion' regarding 'betterment of the breed' nicely.

LOL, okay..I think we both agree that charging less or charging high never guarantees a good pet owner. Asking all the right questions doesn't either, as from what I have learned in the past few weeks with my little guy. But I am happy I am getting him. I know he needs a lot of extra attention and I quit my MWF classes to help him learn to cope with having new owners that does care. Of course the breeder is great she is working with him now on the potty training and he is doing very well. So as we can see its not always about the breeder, or the money its about the new owner and what are they willing to do to make it happen.

My Chino was sold to a couple that paid a good price for him. He is now recovering from his owners from what they did to him. Charging a high price does nothing to guarantee anything when it comes to owning a puppy. All I am having to do is pay for his medical care, so does this make him any less to me? No it doesn't, when I called this breeder a few weeks back she and I discussed a female, I could not bring myself into getting one. I held out anyways because I was determine to bring a male baby in my home. I have found $350-1500 yorkies, but not what I was looking for. Due to the parents looks or overweight, to the puppy , also SHIPPING, I did not want to ship a puppy, and driving forever. This breeder's male is the reason I called her, because I wanted a puppy off of him. She did not have any, well nothing short of a miracle happened and now i am getting my baby on the 20th. And I am driving 6 hours round trip to pick my baby up.

i guess my best explanation would be.. a well thought out plan.. using favorite breeds.. and healthy pets.. starting with a nice 6-7 lb female minimum.. waiting 2 years for the puppies to get old enough to breed..
i am only talking about the yorkie and poodle mix and maltese.
that is my only experience.. i would not mix any other breeds personally.
but we should not be too judgemental of others. i have a friend who is looking to rehome 2 min pins. one male and one female. not altered.
i think they are still puppies. but will stay small. it is a rescue situation
possibly very soon.. pm me if interested.. ne ohio:aimeeyork:aimeeyork

as a new breeder.. i would never want another breed in my house..got my hands full already especially with gus:animal36

He is cute.........Is his hair curly? He also seems bigger than a yorkie so does that mean he takes after the other side. I'm going to say something that might tick some off. But his color looks like a biewer puppy :D However i do not know enough on those to get any backlashes from others, so take this into consideration when you chew me out for saying that.:D. I just love those biewer babies.

HAHA no Chino ( you know Chino, CA) is what we are calling our new yorkie that we are picking up this month on the 20th. Chino is going in for a neuter this coming Tuesday, something the owners were suppose to do when they adopted him. Chino has finally gained to where he is 5.4 lbs now....hopefully he will gain a little more before next week. I would never bred a yorkie...but that again is just me ME.

This is where there is "lack of clarification." IMO, well-planned is no merely 'using your favorite breeds that are healthy pets and big enough and old enough to physically produce puppies.' This is not sufficient or responsible enough reasoning to center a breeing program around. And this more of a general observation, not really just based on your statements. :) And also, just a difference of opinion as well, I'm sure.

What I didn't understand is breeding a yorkie with a doberman????
Somehow that just isn't right. I seen this mix on Kijiji here in Canada. I was really thrown to see two breeds clearly not compatible yet were bred together??? For what reason? Because someone thought it would be a new breed? HMMM I wonder:confused::confused:

I am with you on some of the breeds. Some people are just taking two dogs and throwing them together and whatever the outcome is depends on the dogs. This is so crazy what some will do to make a $.

I couldn't agree more. I was thinking more about this issue, and I thought to myself this poor mixed breed wouldn't know whether to sit and be a lap dog or.. guard the yard .. poor pup would be so confused

yorkieisme 09-03-2008 09:40 AM

you made me laugh, I just recently went into a place where there was 2 yorkies and I swear they acted like they were guarding the place the way they were carrying on.

This is the fourth time I typed this ........what the heck.

I agree, but would at least *hope* that type breeing was an accident, but it wouldn't surprise me.
I think that generally speaking, that most of the time cross breeding these 'designer dogs' is an easy way out for unscrupulous breeders. It's easy to justify breeding when you don't have anyone to answer to--no set standards to worry about meeting, no hassles with having to keep records for registrations, no paperwork to worry about, etc...just attach a cute name to it, show a cute pup because let's face it--ALL puppies are cute. Problem solved.
