| Talking Back... Hello; I am wondering if anyone else has a mouthy Yorkie? My girl knows what NO means but she dont like hearing it! She literally talks back and I have very unbecoming video of her doing it but too ashamed to show it! She will stop whatever I am saying NO for but then she ACTS as if shes going to do it again and barks like a pure diva and I dont appreciate it! She just started this recently - had about 5 episodes. Today - I recorded one to show her Daddy before he bought her anything. He bought her two dresses and I told him not to buy her NOTHING ELSE until she gets over this whole teenager thing? Its how shes acting! He dont listen. Testing boundaries and really acting like A BRAT! Im ashamed to show the video because shes such a sweet girl and the video really puts her in a bad light. She shouldnt be acting this way! It just started. Anyone had this experience? How did you deal with it in showing him/her that NO means NO and not to talk back like this? I am funny about behavior - all of my human babies are very well raised. She will also be a good girl or else! I need to convey this because there is no else - empty threat. | My Muffin would talk back. It was so cute! It wasn't for bad behavior. She was usually playing or begging!

| Conner talks back to us all the time. We think it is adorable. When I tell him no, he will look right at me a bark a few times, then go back and do what he was doing. My mother laughs at his "talk back". I haven't really tried to get him out of it because I think it is so adorable (and he is 2 1/2 years old and has talked back since he was 12 weeks).

| Both of mine do it haha If Duke is barking like crazy and I tell him to stop, he does it to where you can barely hear him, like he's trying to get the last word Lucie does it when we tell her no haha I think it's cute. Usually she's just trying to get us to play with her.

| Both Boo and Gracie are very vocal about everything. They chirp and yammer and whoof and snort in addition to their different barks. But little Miss Gracie Ruth Diva Queen of the World, sasses back when scolded. And not just vocally, she toss her head back and forth to be sure I understand her displeasure. And if really miffed will turn and walk away swinging her bum and tossing her head whoofing the whole time. LOL!! The look on her face the first time I followed her, picked her and got right in her face was priceless. Of course as soon as I was done letting her know exactly who was pack leader in this house I had to go outside and laughed until I had tears coming down my face. Little stinkerett!! It's so hard to discipline her when she does such cute antics, but I really don't want her to start thinking the sun rises and sets on her...even if it really does. I guess just like kids, you need to pick your battles. It doesn't take anything more then a stern look and a snap of the fingers now and she'll, begrudgingly, straighten up. Just be consistent, if it's NO one time, it's always got to be NO.

| So I should let up on her? Thanks Y'all - I dont feel like such a push over Mama now. Here - I'll show the video then yall will know if this is just how Yorkies are or of shes getting all diva on me. Not going to be a lil diva! I want to spoil her and treat her as a diva - dont get me wrong. But I want her to know her place! And be a good girl. This is us at bedtime - trying to get her to settle down like always. She sleeps with us now that shes making it through the night for so long. No accidents yet. She wants the remote and Im saying NO - this is her reaction. (I have to agree/admit - very cute when they talk back but want to be able to control her behavior - if need be when this would NOT go over well hehe.) Im trying very hard to sound like I mean it but its sooo hard looking at their lil faces! Heres the link! (YouTube says its 'processing') Last edited by Sky Fox; 08-13-2008 at 02:15 PM. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It's working now, what a little cutie, I know Joey sure barked up a storm when I played it. I don't know if you're interested, but if you really ever do plan on training, less talking is probably better. Repeating the word "no" over and over is a sure way to get them to ignore you.
