| Allery to my Puppy? It's been about a month since I've had my new baby, and since then my boyfriend and I have had the worst allergies. Any ideas? I heard that it could be just a puppy problem? Getting rid of the baby isn't an option (as you well know....) so any ideas on how to survive with this little guy would be great. Thanks! |

| Hmmm, this is interesting. Well, Yorkie's dont shed so it can't be the hair getting into your sinuses, maybe it's the shampoo/conditioner that your new baby is using? Maybe it's something in her bedding too? Did you possibly change laundry detergent? Or, maybe it's just a coincidence? I understand completley that giving up your baby is not an option so hopefully other posts will give insight into this subject. I hope it all works out for you all.

| [QUOTE=Babbie]Doctors actually lable yorkies as a hypoalergic (sp??) breeds...QUOTE] That's what I thought too.... Well, for me it's fine. For the boyfriend, it's another story, but he has bad allergies too.....so could be another reason and the poor pup is getting the blame! Thanks for your feedback. |

| My cousin is the same way when she comes over to my house, she is highly allergic to animals...I know Yorkies are supposed to be hypoallergenic, but her in-laws have a Yorkie too and she gets all itchy and watery eyes there as well. Maybe there is some allergy pills your doctor could give to you or your boyfriend which would take care of this. Hope it clears up soon!!

| Maybe something in the air that sticks to the yorkie coat and then when you pick him up it stirs up the allergen.. My hubby has bad allergies in the spring and they say to wash their hair before going to bed because pollen gets in their hair and makes it worse. Thats the only idea I have. |

| On Monday I also had a massive allergy attack. At first my mother thought it was due to Chloe and her spending so much time in my bed, but the next day I was fine. I thought it was so funny when I read this post cause I was wondering the same thing. I really think it's just something in the air. (At least I hope that's all it is)

| My Mom, who is 89, has had asthma most of her life, is allergic to lots of things including strawberries [not only can't eat them, she breaks out in giant whelps if she touches them!]. She is now in the latter stages of COPD, even though she has never smoked ... she is just allergic to everything and is on oxygen 24/7! Being "non-allergenic" was certainly a plus for Toto ... when we are home, Toto is at my Mom's house every day [we discussed it with her Doctor first] ... Toto climbs all over her, covers her with puppy kisses and licks her to pieces!! Being around Toto has never affected her at all and surely if there were anything about a yorkie to cause an allergic reaction, my Mom would react!! Toto doesn't spend much time outside so it would be my guess that if someone does have an allergic reaction around a yorkie, it would be something that was picked up on their coat and not the coat itself?

| I have to agree with Bettyanne. I tend to have very bad allergies and got my schnauzer and my yorkie because they do not shed. I really wouldn't think it would be your yorkie that is causing the problems. However I am very allergic to a lot of scented shampoos and the pet shampoos are some of the worst. If your baby has been to the groomer they may have put some sort of perfume on him as well. I have been relieved to know that I don't have symptoms with Bo. I am on Allegra (prescription allergy medicine) for all my other allergies so that may help and I'm just not aware of it. I doubt that a yorkie would make someone sneeze. Possibly a little itch on the skin? Good luck. |

| Thanks to all for your replies. I was thinking too it could be the pollen that's been on his coat. I gave VeeBee a bath today and hopefully it will help the boyfriend. It's been raining the last few days which typically if it's someting in the air, it makes the allergies go away....so I have a feeling it's the dog. I hope the bath works. |
