| Do we know if yorkies dream? Duke has been doing this a lot lately and I'm wondering if he's dreaming or having a nightmare: he would be in deep sleep and all of a sudden jumps up, run really fast around and bark non-stop. I know he hears and smells things that I don't, but so many times I feel that not much change in the apartment and he would do that several times a day. He'll go back to being calm and sleepy again.... Do yorkies dream when they sleep then?

| If that isn't dreaming I've seen my little doggies do all of their lives, then I've been wrong all of my life.

| I am sure they dream when they sleep. Sometimes Layla will move her legs in her sleep (not just twitching as she's falling asleep, but actually making pawing motions) and sometimes she even whimpers or cries! I usually just go over and pet her slowly and snuggle her until her eyes slowly open and then she goes back to sleep peacefully.

| I think so... Izzy does similar things. Like the other day, she was sleeping and then all of a sudden she woke up and started barking like out of no where. and sometimes she growls too. If we only could read their minds!

| They sure act like they do, buddy will move his legs, or bark, or growl, all with never opening his eyes or getting up.

| I think mine dream but never get up and bark. They just whimper sometimes or makes a deep breathing noise. Then they are back out. If they get up and bark its usually because they hear something and you have to go and check it out.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | They sure do, it's called rapid eye movement sleep (REM) and scientists can measure this.

| I know they dream....Mine sometimes are chasing something because they'll be sleeping and their little legs start moving like if they were running...lol They'll be laying on their side when they do that. Sometimes they'll growl too. Who knows but when they wake up I start to make fun of them....lol Like what mommas baby was chasing last night...lol |

| It seems so. Buddy will twitch, jump, whine and his eyes will move behind his lids when he's dreaming. Probably dreaming of chasing a big dog! |

| Yes, i think they do dream....The deep sleep is called REM> Studies have shown that a dog enters this deep sleep and this is when dreams occur. The term "Let Sleeping Dogs Lye" is true. My Suzi sometimes twiches and yelps in her deep sleep.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm sure Joey dreams about Bully Sticks, I wonder how Freud would interpret that?
