After she's had her way with the monkey we've made jokes like...
"Where's Buffy? Having a cigarette?"
Or, when she's ferverishly searching around for the monkey we ask her,
"Hey, Buffy, where's your boyfriend?"

I googled "female dog toy humping" and came back with a lot of hits. As a fellow lister mentioned it could be a dominance issue or obsessive behavior, or, maybe she's just a hussy.

well...I can say this - Chanel has her own Monkey-Boyfriend, Magilla. She is in love. She's REALLY in love. She does the same thing...and yes...we laugh - We also take pictures and one day...she'll have a video.

NO ONE can touch Magilla and if her little sister Cheri tries to put the moves on Magilla AND Chanel catches her - Cheri is smart enough to know to RUN ...Magilla is ONLY Chanel's and there is no sharing her boyfriend

They go thru phases where they get that urge and then it's over - I wouldn't worry about it too much - I think it's hilarious.

I had a female who always humped her "puppy" (a stuffed puppy about her size) She seemed to outgrow it after awhile. My little boy (he's 2 and neutered) has a "tickle-me Elmo" for his pleasure. And he seems to have it down very well, with Elmo giggling and saying "ooh that tickles" I have heard also that it's a domination type of thing, not a sexual one. I just don't keep Elmo out when there is company, so he does it in private.

Now thats funny...I actually have one with dead batteries (my god-daughters)...from that tickle me elmo craze...I will have to see if it give Maximus the good time he is looking for..lol

Villette that is funny. That is how Chachi is about his teddy bear. He has a doggie fit if anyone touches it.

And the site has some advice:

Correcting a dog in a harsh manner for humping is not necessary and can create problems worse than the humping. Work with the dog to develop several behaviors the dog will perform on cue, such as sit, down, come, fetch, go to a spot and settle calmly, go find a toy to chew, and any trick the dog enjoys doing for a reward.

The list of alternative behaviors can be endless. Vary which behavior you cue as a distraction from humping. This keeps your intervention interesting for the dog, and helps avoid encouraging new obsessions.
