| Topknot I was wondering how long you all leave your dogs hair in a topknot? Katie's hair is short and well kept in a puppy cut. But I allow the top to grow long enough so that I can put cute bows in her hair. When I take the rubberband off, her hair falls in her eyes. So should I leave the rubberband in all day? I always worry that it will irritate her if it's in her hair too long.

I leave it in until Ramsey finds a way to pull it out.. It's getting harder and harder to keep bows or bands in his hair!

I have Daisy wear one on days we go out or sometimes just around the house to keep the hair out of her eyes, I take it out each night. She seems to be used to it already and does not fuss too much.

Daily Routine My male Artie has a full coat, his topnot is done daily along w/his grooming ritual; brush his hair teeth and wash out his eyes. I keep it in all day until we get home and my female puppy Abigail takes it out for him while they're playing. I think he tells her to do it? But I always take it out before he goes to bed. I know if I wear a ponytail after awhile I'll get a headache, so I can imagine it's the same for him? As soon as Abigail's hair is long enough I will put it in a clip too. As long as you do something consistently they get used to it and stop fussing so much. But I chose this breed specifically based on the way their standard looked, it wasn't until after I purchased one that I realized how smart and quick to learn they are. They are so easy to train. I don't even have to say anything I can just point my finger in different directions/signals and he does gets the idea and does it. Good Luck.

If it was to stay in all day, I would take it out before he went to bed. Unless he was scratching at it, and I thoug it was irritating him.

I quit using rubber bands because they seemed to make snarls. Now, I use small barrettes. The smallest I could find was at the dollar store. Then I twist her hair and fold it over and snap the barette on it. If I don't twist it, it won't hold. I usually leave it in all day and take it out in the morning, as it doesn't seem to bother her. She is used to it now also. At first, she would rub and rub and all that good stuff until she got it out. Now she waits patiently by the sink in the morning for toothbrushing, eye wipes, brushing (Hates that) and bow in. They get use to it pretty fast! Pat
