| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I always hate when someone asks that innocent question, "What's a parti? It's kind of like when a child first asks, "Where do babies come from?"

I had just pasted the section on off colored Yorkies from YTCA website. The poster asked what a parti was supposed to be. I said it wasn't supposed to be anything meaning there is no standard that dictates what they are supposed to look like since it is considered a color fault. The "sucker being born every minute" was a direct response to the poster commenting on all the puppies with a "sold" sign next to $4,000 to $5,000 price tags. That was just a generic comment about anyone who would pay that much for a Yorkie from that breeder. We had all been commenting on how pitiful a lot of the puppies looked. My comments were not meant to offend anyone and I apologize if they did. They were made early on in this thread when we were on topic. We were discussing how deceptive the marketing was by this particular kennel charging so much for mixes and off color Yorkies because they were "rare", just as it is deceptive to charge more for "teacups". I know statements made on the internet can easily be misconstrued. I hope this clarified what I was trying to say for you.

| Thank you everyone for replying. My friend Marc just came home from some military stuff, so I haven't gotten on because he's been reuniting with me and ringo. Anyhow, I know for a fact that my dog is purebred yorkie, and he's still a puppy so his coat hasn't changed all the way yet, but so far, it's looking good. I'm not nessicarily going for perfection with him either. The breeder specifically sold him to me for 800 dollars because he does have a funny gene and she didn't want to sell him to anyone who was going to breed him again, and besides, once she told people, nobody else wanted him. So, I felt bad. He was the last puppy left in his litter. I'm just glad she was honest with me, the gene isn't that bad, it's just a dormant one that can be activated or amplified in future generations for diabetees, but he's been checked and his blood sugar is good. At least she didn't try to sell him off as a normal puppy at regular price. And I had no problem paying 800 for him, because he is from a good bloodline, he's AKC, she paid for all of his medical exams, and she even gave me dog food. I'm just upset that these breeders feed off of ignorance, and ignorant people don't even bother to do research before they invest so much money into a dog.

I'm sorry, you've lost me, did I miss something in the thread? What funny gene does your puppy have that is dormant and can be activated or amplified in future generations for diabetes?

| I never said that people that buy from these breeders are suckers. I'm just saying that I don't think this breeder knows what they're doing, and breeding defects over and over seems very irresponsible. Sure, there might be a trusted Parti bloodline, and whomever started it may have known what they're doing, but I don't think these people do.

Someone a few pages ago said that since we were flaming the Parti breeder, how did we know ours was reputable. I'm just not one for using quotes, that's all. And it's just a gene they found in him and one of his sisters. It's a diabetic gene, just like the one in people that skips a generation. Therefore, it didn't affect him, but if he were bred, it could affect the next litter. So my breeder made an agreement that she would sell him to me for 800 instead of 2,500 dollars like the other litters of puppies were if I agreed to have him neutered, which she paid for, and I had no problem with, because I was planning on having him neutered anyway. I don't know why it was only my boy and his sister that the gene showed up in, but my baby seems to be fine.

Diabetes usually doesn't start until they are older - after seven years old - so you won't really know if he will become diabetic until later on. If he does have diabetes in his family, be very careful about his diet. Just like with humans, genetics and obesity are the two main causes of diabetes. Steroid use and repeated bouts of pancreatitis can also cause diabetes so be very careful about about that, too.
