| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Some yorkies have a recessive piebald gene; they look like regular yorkies except for some subtle things. If you breed two of these Yorkies together with the recessive piebald gene, some of the off spring will have white coloration on it, in no particular pattern. The Biewer Yorkshire Terrier was created this way, but taken several steps further, and the white coloration has to be in specific areas. The Biewer breeders are trying to get classified as a separate category in the AKC.

| Well guess some people don't do there researching there breed or they would know not to be buying these non standard dogs. Other people just make it sound like its a rare thing and others spend money before they really know anything about the breed. What a mistake for everyone involved.

| A parti Yorkie isn't supposed to be anything. It's a color fault. This is also from the YTCA website: Parti-Color Yorkshire Terriers? Do not be fooled into buying one of these dogs. Now that Designer Dogs are the rage, the “new” Parti-Color Yorkie is certain to draw attention. While we have had problems in the past with “rare gold” Yorkshire Terriers being advertised, the parti-color is a new one! While some breeds have an occasional mismark and some breeds do have a gene for a white dog, we do not. Had there been a problem with white markings, piebald dogs, or white dogs, it would have been addressed in our Standard. Due to unscrupulous breeders advertising parti-colored Yorkshire Terriers at premium prices, our members voted unanimously at our annual meeting to add a disqualification for these and other off colored dogs. The Yorkshire Terrier is a tan dog with a blue saddle. The “rare gold” Yorkie is actually a dog that appears as such due to an improper saddle pattern. Show breeders have seen this and commonly call it running gold. When the dog is cut down, you can see that the blue saddle does not come down far enough. The Yorkshire Terrier blue saddle extends lower than some of the other black and tan terriers extending to the elbow and also to the hock on the rear leg. Gold hairs can occur in the blue and black or blue hairs can appear in the gold. These faults are addressed in the Yorkshire Terrier Standard. These dogs have serious faults and they too should not be sold as "rare" but placed in loving homes as they are very incorrect. Yorkies do not have white markings…never have. A small white strip is sometimes seen on the chest of newborns but this always turns to tan within a few weeks. The AKC registration form for Yorkshire Terriers allows for four choices: blue and tan, blue and gold, black and tan, black and gold. There is no provision for markings. |

| Basicly, the other off color "yorkies" "designer breed" are in reality just a mix .

| please don't get mad when I say this, but Chocolate yorkies are ugly. With the parti yorkies they are totally cute, but not this breeder's yorkies. Someone on YT has a BEAUTIFUL parti yorkie. Anyway what is the difference between a parti and biewer yorkie. They look the same to me? |

| I'm sure no one posting here, owns a black and tan colored yorkie, or a yorkie who's coat color has turned to a beautiful shade of light silver or a yorkie who's coat texture isn't anything but the perfect silk? I'm sure everyone's yorkie meets the YTCA's color and conformation standard to a "T"? If your answer is YES, than congratulations, you're probably one of the few. If your answer is NO, than your yorkie is just as off standard as the more colorful yorkies you are talking of in this thread. It's all in the genes and in some cases, the lack of genes .... same is true with Parti, chocolate and golden colored yorkies, these off colored dogs carry recessive genes from generations back and these colors have been showing up in our dogs since the 1800's. Prior to AKC allowing these off colors to be registered, these surprise litters and pups were kept secret, given away or "disposed" of but since they are now allowed registration, they have every right to be AKC registered as do their traditional colored parents and traditional colored siblings. They cannot be shown in conformation classes but can be shown in other AKC sponsored shows and classes. Parti, chocolate and Golden colors are coming out of traditional colored yorkies who carry the recessive genes. Both parents must carry this gene in order for the color to appear, so a traditional Yorkie, can't have an accidental breeding with a Maltese (extreme spotting) or some other spotted dog and produce a parti colored pup, cause Mom would also have to carry the spotting gene for the parti color to appear. With the exception of the blue born yorkie (who often have the health problems that are listed in the YTCA article previously posted), Parti's, golden's and chocolates, are completely healthy and have no more health problems, than the standard yorkies have. I'm sure there are many colorful breeders who are driven by money, just as there are many traditional breeders who are driven by greed. I just wanted to add another view to the thread :-) Late for work ... gotta go!

| Gizmo-Micro Mini Male--Champion Lineage Oy. I will say that a lot of the puppies are not very cute. Their hair is scraggly and they look less than healthy. The parti yorkies look nothing like the fluffy beauties I see here. |

Hmmm, no. An AKC registered yorkie with a color variant is, indeed, a purebreed.

| The Biewers originated from the same German line, originating from 2 standard yorkies and *should* be traceable back to that line. Currently there is a standard regarding placement of the colors, whereas "partis" do not. (Although if you want to get technical, "parties" don't really have a standard at all, so...) That's the answer ina nutshell, assuming you aren't interested in being assaulted with various Biewer websites all promoting their own varying adapted points of view. |
