I'm sure everyone's yorkie meets the YTCA's color and conformation standard to a "T"? If your answer is YES, than congratulations, you're probably one of the few. If your answer is NO, than your yorkie is just as off standard as the more colorful yorkies you are talking of in this thread.
It's all in the genes and in some cases, the lack of genes .... same is true with Parti, chocolate and golden colored yorkies, these off colored dogs carry recessive genes from generations back and these colors have been showing up in our dogs since the 1800's. Prior to AKC allowing these off colors to be registered, these surprise litters and pups were kept secret, given away or "disposed" of but since they are now allowed registration, they have every right to be AKC registered as do their traditional colored parents and traditional colored siblings. They cannot be shown in conformation classes but can be shown in other AKC sponsored shows and classes.
Parti, chocolate and Golden colors are coming out of traditional colored yorkies who carry the recessive genes. Both parents must carry this gene in order for the color to appear, so a traditional Yorkie, can't have an accidental breeding with a Maltese (extreme spotting) or some other spotted dog and produce a parti colored pup, cause Mom would also have to carry the spotting gene for the parti color to appear.
With the exception of the blue born yorkie (who often have the health problems that are listed in the YTCA article previously posted), Parti's, golden's and chocolates, are completely healthy and have no more health problems, than the standard yorkies have.
I'm sure there are many colorful breeders who are driven by money, just as there are many traditional breeders who are driven by greed.
I just wanted to add another view to the thread :-)
Late for work ... gotta go! |
