| I bought my Rocky from a lady breeding dogs from her home. I met both his mom and dad (the breeder owned both) and their temperament was excellent. I know he is not from a puppy mill and this is important to me as no animals should be raised in this way and thought of only for money - nobody benefits from that as the puppy's personality is affected as well. I did not buy from a breeder and cannot trace Rocky's ancestry but am OK with that as I have seen his parents and how he was raised. He is also wonderful with us - very bright, curious and happy. As hard as it is - people should not buy puppies because they feel pity for the animal - it encourages the puppy mill criminals to continue as they benefit financially from a good person's compassion. Stronger laws and tougher penalties for animal abusers is a no-brainer. Politicians need to have a heart - and people who know these puppy mill breeders should turn them in - otherwise they are no better than the criminals themselves. | I've been writing letters for years trying to get someone to pass a new law limiting the number of breeding dogs one can have and prohibiting dogs from being kept outside. I just ordered a license plate cover in solid brass that says "stop puppy mills" at the top and the www.puppymills at the bottom. It's to be delivered on the 31st. If I like it, I will order a second one for the front of the car. We can't give up folks. |

Thanks to the original thread starter, I agree with you all that EDUCATION is important. Personally, I have yet to purchase my yorkie, but I came to this forum in order to learn and educate myself in all things yorkie, and trust me I HAVE!!! Thanks to all the kind souls on this site, I feel like I'm better informed as to what to look for when I'm finally ready to go out an get my very own furbaby. I also feel like this community is very beneficial to those who are still looking for a furbaby. Those who have been so kind as to share their stories have allowed for me to learn from their heartaches as well as their joys. You guys helped me watch out from buying a puppy from a bad breeder!!! Since then I realized I have much to learn, and I love having somewhere to go to research, and get ideas of, not only what to look for in a breeder, but what to expect once my furbaby gets here. I know for sure YT will be the first place I share pictures of my puppy. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!!!!! As a side note..... Out here in Los Angeles, the mayor has recently passed a law making it so that pets living in the city of Los Angeles (he's starting small) must be neutered. Only exceptions are given to reputable breeders. It's still new, but it seems to be working so far. I think it's original purpose was to stop the number of unwanted dogs and cats that end up on the streets. But, if it helps stop the BYB in the area, or puppy mills, I think it's great!!!! | |

I agree with many things you have said, and for years didn't believe in buying a purebred dog because so many dogs are being killed. This is a personal decision, and not one I want to make for others, but one I made for myself. This is probably the last dog, I'll ever own, and I wanted a dog like this all my life, so I finally told myself "yes." I wanted to find what I thought was an excellent breeder; someone who really was interested in improving the breed, and someone who wasn't contributing to the unwanted dog population. Many breeders, such as herself, will take a dog back, and find it a suitable home for the life of the dog. None of her dogs will ever end up in shelters. This is one of the reasons I felt I could, in all good conscious support this breeder. I appreciate all your replies, and I'm really just asking you for one thing; to see the home for yourself, in which the puppies are raised, and recommend others do the same. If you tell 10 people, and they tell 10 people, and they tell 10 people . . . . .
