| She is beautiful and very lucky, too, that you saved her. Have you asked your vet about the choking? If it could be something like tonsillitis or trachea-related? I'm certain she must be just about the happiest little girl in the whole world right now.

| I whole-heartedly agree about the harness versus the collar. We had a Lhasa Apso that had spinal surgery and the docs counseled us about using a harness to transfer the stress from their neck to their chest. We now use harnesses on all our pups. This is especially true for those "hyper" little ones that tug at the lead. Great advice! |

| I think dogs can have difficulty with attention and turning off the motor just like human kids do. It is all in the brain chemistry. We have two and almost three (next week) and we have learned that a fast walk every day and or a swim really makes them healthy and happy and then in the evenings we play the "throw the ball game and "pull the toy" game. They sleep like babies much of the day. I have taken many a healthy walk I didn't want to but the boys expected it. Yorkies are very smart and active breeds and if you do not find something for them to do they will! Training yorkies is very important I think. They look for leadership. Maybe your rescue (Such a lucky dog to have you) can contain the anxiety and concerns about a new place with those ideas. they have a strong terrier personality on the most part and need leadership and routine or they will take that on for themselves too. Remember that dogs live in the "now". They are generally good adaptors because that is what they do to survive. (Don't reinforce the nervousness by to much sheltering) It is training people to not treat them like they are neurotic or allow them to take up difficult habits. Your dog sounds like it is in very good hands. C |

| No Longer a Member | I just wanted to say thank you for all of your kind words. I love my little stinker girl. She is so funny and cute. We are using a harness when we take her outside to potty. I think she keeps choking from where the previous owner made her stay outside chained to the retractable leash and on the collar. When we went to look at her, she had that old collar on and she had bitten almost all the way through it. She was tied up to the garden stake and her leash was wrapped several times around the garden stake(pole). She had no room to play, or use the potty but one tiny spot. The day we went back to get her, She had no food or water and they knew we were coming???? What's up with that? The day we looked at her for the first time, it was 100 degrees and she was left outside. The next day when we got her I asked where does she sleep? They told me right there on the ground. No dog house, no toys, nothing........... We went out and spent over 500.00 dollars on toys, her own little squeaky purse, puppy perfume, puppy carrier, shampoo/detangler, pink soft blanket and pink fuzzy princess bed, treats, more toys, pink create, fuzzy pink soft pad to go into the crate. We bought her a puppy tag that's purple and pink with a heart on it with her name and address and phone. (You get the idea) bows and now working on cute clothes. I just ordered 7 harness dresses with the built in harness on the back. I got her into an emergency vet visit and had her updated on shots, meds, frontline plus, worm medicine and of course grooming. We have owned her 6 weeks yesterday and she has already had two groomings. We have put her on good dog food. They had her on dog chow. If anyone can let me know about what their puppys are eating and that their puppy likes the food please let me know. She has been on Science Diet and after ready about dog food on this YT site I quickly got her off of that. I had no idea. She is on Chicken Soup for the puppy lover's soul. I got free samples of Wellness and she tried that a little today and liked it some. She don't like the Chicken Soup. Their is no place to buy the better quality of dog food here in town. I will have to buy it on the web. Please let me know if you like something better. Thanks again for all of your help |
