New Member (Denise) Hello, I'm new here at YT and I had a question about my yorkie. She is very hyper and I know that most of them are but, she is 8 months old and has really been abused by the previous owner. I bought her from an newspaper ad. She was made to stay outside. She was chained up with a retractable leash and collar tied to a garden stake. She was never groomed and you could not even see her eyes. She had fleas and worms and not up-to-date on her shots. She gets choked all the time. I've had her about 6 weeks now, and she is so precious. I've taken care of everything that she needs to be a happy and healthy little girl. I've just had her spayed about 3 weeks ago and WOW she is still very hyper, maybe even worse. Is there a such thing as ADHD with yorkies? |
could it be that even though has been 6weeks she is still pretty dam HAPPY that she is in a better home!!!! so she just feels like wow!!!! someone loves me.... hehe sorry dont know if dogs can have adhd. give her some more time to take it all in....... she might think she is dreaming |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I'm not sure about the ADHD, but maybe she is just happy to be loved. :) |
Thanks Thanks for the information! How do you get those cute little pictures when you post? Mine just says YorkieTalk Newbie? I want to put a picture of Chloe on there. |
if i remember correctly go to profile under avatar and upload. |

Chloe is GORGEOUS. Bless you for taking her in and giving her the home she DESPERATELY needed. I am sure in time she will settle. I believe the previous posters are right in that she just CAN'T BELIEVE her good fortune. LOL LOL LOL ENJOY and CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!! She is lucky you found her. :littleang |
Welcome and bless you! Denise, you are to be commended for rescuing your new little one and giving her a safe and loving home. I have rescued many wonderful dogs and they all come with their own "baggage", but they are well worth the patience and attention! She is still a puppy with lots of energy, so she will probably calm down some as she gets older. Also, the demeanor of those around her will affect her behavior. If the energy level is high (like with kids, or being excited around her), then her energy level will also be high. Try to get those who interact with her to maintain a calm, even temperament. Speak in a low, soothing voice. Over time, she should respond to that calm energy. I have some great rescue stories if you are interested. We had a rescue Lhasa Apso that sounds a little like your baby's story. She was made to live in the backyard for 7 years. Her hair and eyes were so matted, it made me want to cry. But she thrived and yours will too. Time, love, and patience will do wonders with her. You might also check what is in her food. She may need a natural diet. What is she eating? Bless you for your spirit and your concern. But don't worry, you stay calm and she should follow suit! |
Hi and Welcome to YT .... ;) |
Welcome to YT! Bless you for giving this one a secure loving home. She will adapt. Plus they have a lot of puppy in them until they are 2, but I would imagine she will calm a lot in the next few months knowing the security she has with you and you work with her |
Hi and welcome to YT!! Kuddos to you for rescueing such a precious little girl. My Maxy will be 2 in October, and he is still very energetic! He just loves to be outside running around. |
Welcome to YT! |
Hello & welcome to YT :) Poor little girl, what a state she was in! Looking at her picture you have done a wonderful job of getting her back into good condition. :) I think her over excitement is just a combination of puppy energy & extreme joy at finding you to love. Mine always go hyper when they see me, even if I've only been to the shop for 5 minutes! xx Meggie |
I looked at her pictures and that one little happy girl, and i also was thinking she has freedom from not being tied up and she has no fleas, flies or any other varment on her little body, she gets to be a girly girl in her pretty outfits and she has someone to love her,i look at it this way she has just been born again and she has arrived in this new wonderful life and just can't do nothing but be happy and be gratefull,i have one that was in a puppy mill for two years and i have had for a year and he is happy and gratefull. |
Bless you for saving this wonderful little angel. TJ is 8 months old with enough energy for 3 dogs. So I know what you mean about the energy level. Lots of long walks or maybe a run (if you are young enough to do that.) will help with some of the extra energy. Be sure to use a halter not a collar. You are blessed to have found and saved this little one and you will be getting a lifetime of hugs, kisses, eternal love and devotion in return. Welcome to YT, my friend. |
