I use the left over rubber bands from my kids braces which are ideal as they are latex and will not break the hair.

I found that some of the bands aren't very stretchy... if you can't get them around more than a couple times, I would try a different brand.

I can't recall what brand I have (bought at target)... but I know I wrap it around at least 3 or 4 times. Mia is so good about it now.. she just puts her little head down for me.
