Rubberbands I see so many photos where you guys are using small rubberbands to hold your yorkies hair back on top. I bought a small pack of them and I cant seem to get the rubberband to go around very easily. I can do two times but I need to do three and the rubberband is too tiny! I have small hands and long fingers so you'd think I could do this, but I cant. Is it because her hair isnt thick enough yet or something? Whats the secret to tying them up? |
Myah doesn't have much hair to band up...but I bought some at Wal-Mart in the hair section that work out great for her. They have clear and brown ones and in the little girls section, they have all different colors. I can get them around her top knot 3 times and they stay in. She only has about a inch of hair above the band...hubby calls her a porcupine when I do it. |
I have to really stretch mine out before I put it in. GL. |
I will try again then with the ones I have. I bought them in the hair section at Walmart where the hairbrushes, etc are. Maybe I have to stretch them out more before trying it. She isnt very good at sitting and letting me do it either so that might be part of the problem. I feel like Im pulling her hair though so I havent gone back to try again, but I will. |
I read somewhere that the rubberbands that they use for braces work. So, I had my sister bring me some and they work great! They go on easy and come off easy.:) |
I wouldn't use the ones from walmart...or any of the ones you find in the hair section at regular stores. They break the hair. You should actually buy grooming bands as they are made and coated to stop breakage. You will also want to cut them out each use. I order mine from Woodpeckers - Grooming supplies for the professional - 1-800-597-6342 and get the M MW clear bands. They are small, yet stretchy. I have no problems wrapping them three times around my dogs' topknots. |
I use the rubberband that i purchased from dollartree...its the ones that don't catch onto their hair...its the latex one i think..i would have to get the package out and see what it is...its small but i can get them around 4 times...and it works great.... |

Thanks for that!! I just used what I had here and only did it a couple of times and did cut them out. I'll make sure to use the correct one. I don't want to cause breakage, she doesn't have enough hair the way it is.... |
The slick bands at Sallys work great, I use them for Trixie and my daughter. They stretch easily but I always ut themm out so it doesnt pull. I have started using the tiny barettes clipped through the topknot (under the band) to put the fun stuff in. |
the dollar tree has a package with rubberbands and the terry ones in it. the bands aren't great but I like the terry ones |
I buy all kinds of hairbands ... they all work fine ... I use the ones for Humans .... on my dog ... :D |

My groomer gives me the ones I use in Sasha and Jasmine's hair. |
I like the latex bands as well, I started with the 3/16 because Joey's hair was thin, and I only had to twist once. They stay in great. As Joey's hair has gotten thicker, we have graduated to the ¼ inch size and I twist these twice, but the whole band is thicker so it's actually pretty easy to do. This site shows the actual sizes, but you can order them from lots of places, just look for grooming bands or "topknot bands." Latex bands for dog bows The ones I got from Walmart were made of a plastic type material and didn't stay in well at all. |
I wish I could get Mufasa to stay still long enough to put a bow in. He hates to be brushed and I mean HATES to be brushed so he would NEVER stay still long enough for me to get a bow in. |
