Perfect, thanks so much. That is just what I needed to start seaching in the right direction. The vets I contacted were of no help, and sneared at me for looking for a purebred dog rather than adopting from the Humane Society. Made me afraid to even ask anymore.

The quarantine process was made much less restrictive last year. As long as all the paperwork is received in Oahu and confirmed, there is no quarantine anymore. HOWEVER, the pup must fly in cargo and you must route through Oahu and the pup must be picked up no later than 5:00pm or they have to stay at least 48 hours at your additional cost. The paperwork is still pretty extreme and it is completely up to you to follow-up and make sure everything necessary is in place.

She will be about at least 10 months old when we go. Once I graduate this year, I still have to take boards for my license, so once I'm settled it will be at least May of next year.

Deegan and I are stuck in Windsor, ON Canada - where it's either muddy, slushy, nothing but construction for miles, freezing tempertures or high humidity! Yuck! I live in Kapolei, on Oahu, and have been looking for a second yorkie for months. I contacted Ms Yamada, but no luck. She stated she would keep me on the list. It has taken 4 months to get Rocky here. (almost here he lands June 2.) The process was harder on me than him I understand, because I found a breeder in Portland who would board him there and take care of the whole process for a fee.

Are there any California breeders in here that are experienced with the Hawaii process and able to ship in yearlings?

Wow, I was surprised to see this old thread re-activated. After I posted it, I ended up getting a Morkie from Oahu in August '08. I do see Yorkies available from time to time on Kijiji Honolulu. It really is difficult to find them in Hawaii, and the reliability of the breeders certainly is not what you'd find on the mainland. However, with the quarantine laws here, a puppy would end up a minimum of 10 months old before they could be shipped to Hawaii. I personally do not like the idea of shipping any dogs on overseas flights, anyway.

Do you only want a pup or would you consider older? I may have some ideas for you and will send you a PM when I check them out.

I also will check with another gal I know who is friends with woman that breeds Yorkies on Oahu. I'll let you know what I hear.

I'm a relocated Hawaii girl. Grew up on Oahu, but I've been living on the mainland since college. When we first moved to Hawaii back when I was a kid, I can remember how stressful the quarantine process was on our dog-- it was awful for the whole family. I've heard they have improved the process a bit since then, but-- fingers crossed that you can find a dog locally to avoid that whole mess!

Every one of these with the exception of the one with a web site meets the criteria for being a scam. Priced too low, Text is obviously written by persons who's first language is NOT english. Word like baby faced, tea cup, guaranted under 4lbs. Phone numbers trace back to LA not anywhere in HI , etc. It is scary here, because there ae NOT many breeders and these dogs are in demand, scamers are working overtime.
