| 4th of July SCARE On the fourth, we took Rocky and Bella with us, and went with some friends to watch fireworks. We were sitting right across the street from where the fireworks were getting shot off at, and Rocky wasn't too happy about the fireworks. My fiance was holding Rocky and he kept barking, so I said I would hold him. I had him for about a minute, then all of a sudden he jumped out of my lap and started running toward the fireworks! He had his leash on him and I was holding the leash, I have no idea how he got off of his leash. He ran out into the street, a car stopped about 5ft in front of him. There were a lot of cars on the road, but luckily they weren't speeding (speed limit is 30mph) and they were paying attention. I ran after him, thinking a car will see me before they see him, and once he crossed the street he stopped and I grabbed him, then my fiance came running up after me. He told me a Suburban almost hit us, I'm very thankful right now that were all ok! I checked his leash and harness, they were both completely fine, not broke or ripped, so I have no idea how his leash got unnattached, unless the way I was holding maybe my hand hit it or something. On the way home I think I actually had a panic or anxiety attack from it all, I never had one before so I'm not sure what they feel like, but I had trouble breathing, felt like someone was pushing in and down on my lungs. Next year Rocky won't come to watch the fireworks with us, I wish I could bring him, but it's not worth it if he gets so upset, and definitly not worth it if he's going to risk his life.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Wow first so happy that everyone is OK. Funny last year was Izzy's first fireworks and she was fine (she was only 6 mos) and she had no problem, so I thought this year would be a piece of cake. Anyway she was not and barked her head off too with the ones just going off in the neighborhood so needless to say I didn't take her to see fireworks this 4th. It's not worth it and luckily everyone was safe in your case. I wonder, too, if your hand unhooked something by accident?

| That is scary. You could have got hit too, and Rocky just freaked out What a close call .I think it is a much better idea not to take him next year .Our little guys are very fast, and things happen in a split second. I am very glad your okay, and Rocky. But, that was way too close to a tragedy.

| I am glad you are both okay. Dixie and Teddy didn't even know it was the Fourth of July. They spent it sleeping!! He was probebly going, 'Dang mom! I wanted to go see the fireworks! I wanted to catch one!!!' |

| I too am glad that you are both ok. My babies went nuts just hearing way off fireworks while they were in the house! Mine don't like loud noises or sudden noises.

| My doxie gets upset by fireworks too. He ran out the front door the other night and my husband was lighting a bottle rocket. Spike was trying to bite at it and it popped in his face. Luckily, he didn't get hurt, but he hid under the bed the rest of the night. From now on, all my dogs will be penned up during the fourth. Scary things can and do happen.

| Glad both you and you lil one are alright...I stayed home with my lil one this year as last year she was only 5 mths old and I figured this would be her first 4th with really being aware of the fireworks and the noise. She did great...she only barked at the first fireworks going off and after that...just ignored them, could also be cuz she was at home and comfortable and mom was there...better safe than sorry.....
