| I'm not a professional but definitely agree with having him neutered. There is really no reason not to unless you plan to show and breed seriously. In addition to the behavior issues that neutering curbs, I understand there are many physical problems - like cancer - that are higher risks for intact males. Just not a chance I was willing to take. My two had no problems at all. My vet waited until they weighed around 4 pounds so they were 7 months old. Dropped them off early AM and they came home around 1 PM. They were a little drowsy the rest of the day but were back to normal by the next day. They had cones, but I didn't make them wear them. I tried the onesies but they could wiggle out of them so I just kept reminding them not to lick. They really didn't try to after the second day or so. Neutering didn't change their personalities at all. Just make sure your vet has a lot of experience with small breeds, uses the correct anesthesia and does necessary tests. I'd suggest getting pain meds from your vet just in case. But do it. It is the best thing for your dog. |
