To neuter or not to neuter? Hi, I am a new member and need professional advice on neutering my Yorkie, who is 9 months old now. |
If you are asking yourself to neuter or not, i must say personally: YES!!! please do... but if you are just unsure and looking for a professional opinion, then i suggest a visit to your vet and he/she can explain to you better all the pros and cons about it.... Post pics of your baby!!!!! and welcome!!!!! |
Yes I had Scooter nuetered about a month ago now. He was 9 months old at the time. I was unsure what to think about it because he had such good blood lines, is well behaved, and the list goes on. After weighing all the options, I decided to go for it. I love our vet but they are not always the cheapest so I got recommendations on other vets from friends and coworkers. Long story short, I decided to just stay with my vet because by the time the new vets would run all the tests and initial examm fees, it would cost me the same. One of Scooters testicles was not decended so the procedure was a little more intense than originally planned. Instead of having stitches in one area that would dissolve on thier own, he had to have a second set on the side. After about 12 days, I took him back to the vet to get the stitches out. The first day they will be drowsy and won't eat much but he has been back to normal ever since. That was one thing that worried me when I was considering what to do. He used to mark his territory and that has pretty much stopped. He is doing great. I encourage you to do it, especially if you don't have time or want to worry about puppies....you never know when they will run into a good smelling female. Ask your vet the millions of questions you have and the answers will help you figure out what to do. :animal-pa |
Yes, please do it, death because of injuries relating to car accidents is the number one cause of male dog's death. If you do this soon, your Yorkie will remain your little boy, instead of having the feelings of an adult male whose main interest will be the "bitch" down the street. |

We just got a male a few weeks ago. He is 5 months old and is getting pretty ornery. Did any of you notice if it changed your pup in anyways other than the normal male stuff? We are hoping that after he is fixed, we won't be doing that for a month or so for obvious reasons, that he chills out a little bit especially when playing with our girl Bossy,:) |

I say neuter. And no, they don't always get the cone. I got my girl spayed and my uncle got his neutered, and neither of them had a cone. |

The cone really depends on youre specific pup. Some will try to lick their stitches... others wont. I had my baby in a onsie for the first 2 nights. and i stayed with her the first 2 days. She was really drowsy at first and just layed for about 16-20 hours. By the next morning she was back to racing around the house. I did my best to calm her down but it was pretty useless. I figured that meant she was feeling better and a good sign. |

Neuter. I had Conner neutered at 7 months. He was to stay at the vet's office until 5:30 p.m. on the day he was neutered. The vet called me at 2:30 and told me I could pick him up. I went to the vet's office, and he walked out looking as he did when he went in. I couldn't believe it. He had no cone. The vet told me to wait a couple of hours before I fed him. He came home looking for dinner and it was a full-time job to make sure he was not jumping. He had a great night's sleep and was back to normal the next morning. I took a few days off work to make sure he was going to be okay, but I really did not have to. He came through like a champ. |
do it i didn't neuter. my boyfriend was totally against it. we wanted to breed him. as time went on he developed the "bad behavior." he has to wear belly bands and humps his toys. the humping doesn't bother me much..but the belly bands are a pain and embarrassing to explain. next boy will be neutered even if it causes a divorce. lol.. |
