| We have tons of hawks around here, and they can carry off rabbits bigger than my dogs. That's the biggest reason we decided to paper train rather than training them for outdoors. They do go out when we go out, but I'm always looking around for hawks. They're very quick, and they can swoop down and carry something away in the time it takes you to realize what happened |

| Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I posted before that a hawk tried to get my Chelsey (4.2LBS) and my 16 lb Teddy protected her. NO hawk can pick up Teddy so he is safe. They will not go after anything that big. All my dogs can only be out if Teddy is there. Even if I'm there too Teddy is like a guard dog and much faster than I am. I know how you feel I was scared for days. I'm so glad your Spanky is OK.

| OMG I can't believe that hawk came so close to Spanky...with you right there. I've had them to hover over my back yard and actually swoop down and get a dove off our back porch, that was before I got my furbabies. So I've always been aware that it's a possibility. Sounds like that hawk was stalking Spanky. Thank God you were there with him.

| OMG....glad that your lil one is alright....I just posted earlier this evening about seeing either an owl or hawk swoop down towards my patio cover this afternoon, luckily my lil one was indoors....I have my back patio netted along with the patio cover to protect her, but it seems that the netting isn't much protection....I think it had to have been a hawk who has been stalking her...I don't think I'll be letting her out on her own anymore...I don't know what I would do if I were to lose her...

Hawks WILL pick up a small dog and carry them off - even if they don't actually 'fly' away with them - the talons alone can kill a small animal....you were very very lucky...

I'll never forget the first time I read about it. It's just not something people think about until they get a small dog
