| He's eating/licking his front paws Is this normal or should I be concerned! Harlem has just recently started to eat and lick his front paws when he decides he wants to calm down and lay on the floor. You get it, he's very hyper and never stays still! Anyway, I can here him chewing his nails. Now when he jumps up on me, he scratches me with those half bitten nails. What's going on, is this normal?

| Chewing on paws is a common symptom of allergies. What kind of food does Harlem eat? A lot of us here have yorkies with allergies!

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Just a s a suggestion, have you check his paws, in between his"fingers"?He could have something stocked in there. You mentioned he was hipper, has he alway been like that, or have you notice a change on his behavior? What about allergies? What food is he on?

| funny, you should say that. I do think he has allergies. Sometimes, when I take him outside to use the bathroom, he comes back in and rolls all over the floor and rubs on his head as if he's trying to get something off him. He is also very itchy. He is on food with no corn because I thought he was allergic to corn. I'm going to have to switch it again because he's still itchy but not as much. I would like to get a allergy test but can't afford the cost since I'm planning a wedding right now. I was told that it cost around $250.00.

| My daughter's dog bites his nails too. He's has done this all his life. He's a well balanced dog and doesn't seem to ail anything. (What you might call a mongrel but gorgeous.) Hugs Shirl x x |

| I totally understand... Layla is the same way. I switched her to a fish based food but I may have to go even simpler than that because she still gets days where she can't stop biting. Remember to check the ingredients of his treats too! And then of course it could also be environmental allergies. It can be really tough to figure out!

| I would put him on a grain free allergy food and bath him with oatmeal shampoo.

Also, since I use k-9 Advantix, I'm about to switch to Frontline, but they told me to use soap free shampoo so I would not strip the flea medication so I don't know if I can use the oatmeal shampoo. I'm not sure.

| Most oatmeal shampoo is soap free, there are a few allergy foods but I prefer Natural Balance they have a whole line of Limited Ingredient Diets. I like the Potato & Duck Dry Formula they make it in small bites.
