| Anyone out there willing to help stop the Yorkie scams? I've been on a mission to combat this for more than a year now. These are Nigerian scams that do nothing but suck money from innocent people who want a pet to love. I've talked to two FBI agents about it. The first didn't seem interested, but the second spent 45 minutes on the phone with me explaining why this is happening. People became so aware of the "you have a long lost relative who has no heirs and you can have all their money" scam that the Nigerians moved to different tactics. The helpful agent I spoke with explained that the two most commonly advertised dogs are Yorkies and English Bulldogs. They also have something going with tractors. I didn't quite understand that, but it didn't interest me, so I didn't delve into it. It's impossible for the US to put a stop to this because the Nigerian government won't help with it. They apparently support it because it's a big source of Nigerian income. Every week, I scan our local papers and report the scam ads. I also report web sites that are scams, like the one that another member posted today. I've been 100% successful in getting the scam ads taken out of our local newspapers, and also pretty successful in getting the scam sites shut down. If you're interested in this, you can simply post a "Yes" in this thread, and I'll let you know how to go about it. Please understand that it takes some time and commitment, and you will not be saving any dogs. There are no dogs to save. What you'd be saving is the people who are looking for a Yorkie and are too trusting and uneducated about the scams to realize what they're doing until they've already lost money "buying" a non-existent dog. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Could you give us more details? I don't think you can ever stop scam artists, but we can educate the public on what to look out for, and the number one rule: NEVER WIRE MONEY!! Scam artists will be around as long as there are greedy people.

| I will help also. Just let me know what I have to do........ I even spoke with a scammer on yahoo IM and pretended to be all excited about getting the puppy, And asked that he give the pup for free, he said yes, as long as you do me a favor, so I agreed, and he asked me to put up local listings on the free classifieds for the "other pup" for him...... I went OFF on him Telling him I hope he rots in He** and when its my time to go i know I'll have a better seat because I am an honest person. Blah, blah. LOL So yes I would be glad to help!!!!

| I'll post details over the weekend The reason I asked if there was interest rather than just posting the details is I don't have any of it written down yet. I've been doing it for so long that I just sort of know what to look for, so it will take me some time to get it all into writing. This is a very unfortuate situation. The Nigerian people are, overall, very poor, and are trying to find any way they can to make money. The government is very corrupt and condones the scams rather than trying to stop them, simply because it's a source of income. It has become a way of life for many of the Nigerians to run these scams simply to find a way to survive. Bad situation overall, but I still do my little part to stop it. Dishonesty isn't the answer to any problem IMHO. |
