| I have questions Please let me know what you think or know. looking at a pup that is now 7.5 weeks just under 1 lb, wanting to have a 5.5 to 6 lbs adult full grown. Mom is 7 lbs and Dad is 4.75 Her ears are not yet errect, should they be by this age? Also the breeder did not clip dew claws, I read on AKC standard that the rear ones should be cliped but that forfront is optional, has anyone kept thiers on and should I have them removed. Thanks for any advise |

| I can't imagine why the breeder didn't remove the dew claws. They can get tangled in clothes, etc. and actually be ripped off the poor puppy. They need to be removed in the first few (3-5) days after birth, otherwise it requires surgery to remove them. The ears aren't necessarily up at that age. Have the tips been shaved to help them come up? The weight is a difficult issue to predict. My smallest puppy now weighs the most. One of my bigger guys is now small compared to his brothers.

| If I get her I deffinately will have them removed. Her ears were not shaved, I know I had read you can tape them and shave them I just want to make sure if I get her that 7.5 weeks is not to late to attempt to have her ears come up. |

BANNED! | At 8 weeks of age you x's the weight by 3 so it looks like she won't grow to be the size your looking for. Although at this age its an estimate and not 100% accurate to know how big they will grow up to be. Weight charts do indicate she will be under 4 lbs full grown unless she has a really good growth spurt unexpectedly. As far as the ears they still have time to stand but shaving them and taping will definately help. Dewclaws I always remove since it can be very painful to them if they get one caught on something and it gets torn off. I definately recommend having them removed. |
