We want to add another yorkie to our home...girl/boy? We have an 8 year old little boy named Champ and we are starting to look for another little one. We can't decide if it would be better to get a boy or a girl. We're worried about how Champ is going to react. From ya'lls experiences would champ do better with a little girl or boy? Oh and Champ isn't neutered, but we know we might have to if there are problems with the new little one. Thanks!

If it were me.. and I had champ for 8 years,. I think I would go for a girl.. he has been with you for a long time and you might find another boy there might be a lot of three pointers going on in your house.. (cocking) both males trying to be the dominant one.. mind you that can happen with a girl also one wanting to be more dominant.. but I would go a girl.. when I had two boys in my house one would do it then the other wanted to do it in the same spot.. with only one male now it is much better... just my opinion..then years ago I had two males both neutered and no problems at all.. so with that.. It could all depend on the dogs too.. some one might have a better idea then me.. good luck in your decision which ever you decide on... anne

I would say girl too, but remember the surgery for a female is higher. So you have two surgeries to pay for and girls can be harder to find and sometimes cost a little more...

| I have 1 yorkie.a 5 yr old male not neutered. I started the research to get him a companion. Most people told me to get a female to prevent a marking competition with 2 males. I was also warned of dominance issues with males. I didn't get a second yorkie because our house burned down. When we get our house rebuilt I will reconsider a companion. I feel they do better with a buddy. Romeo does frequently visit my mother that has 2 yorkies so he is well socialized.

Thanks for the help! We never neutered Champ because we were planning on breeding him, but them we moved out of state and we haven't found a little girl here. The little girl we are looking at is 16 weeks old and she is absolutely precious, but I think Champ is getting a little to old to breed now. We were kinda of leaning towards one of the little boys in a 4 week old litter. Both of his parents are beautiful and they have a 1 year daughter that is goregous! If we get the boy now, I want to get a girl in a year or so (whenever I get out of my parents and into my new house) and we would hopefully breed them. But that means that we wouldn't be planning on neutering the new little guy anytime soon which could be problematic. We just can't decide!
