| Hi This is the response I received from Petfinders...I was asking about donations... Hi, i sent an email asking about donations and this is what i got back.....please contact her directly....thank god shira is doing better.....i will keep my fingers cross that you get her... Tara- Diesel and Dais's mom Hello Tara, Thank you so much for your interest in Shira, poor little thing has such a hard time. Actually, I was about to update the website regarding Shira's condition, but since you were so nice to write me I will tell you first and you can share it with your friends. Shira had her surgery two days ago. The doctor fixed both knees and also respositioned the tibia crest. That's a difficult surgery and will take a long time for her to recover. She came through the surgery well but the vet says that she cannot come home right away because she's in a great deal of pain and will not eat. Keep her in your prayers.......... and again........... thank you. Trish PS. feel free to contact me about Shira anytime. ooops, sorry, I didn't answer your question about the cost. Her surgery is a minimum of $1,400.. I think we have only $440. so far. I'm hoping more money will come in for her treatment. I hope someone on this board get her... btw, i also asked her if the husband was going to be prosecuted for throwing her... |

| Hey guys, I just got an email from Shira's foster mom...First, I had put in an adoption application and so had my mother with UYR thinking she was fostered in Western Washington since that is what the add said. I have let them know that we would personally pick her up in Colorado via car so she did not have to fly and would be happy to provide extra references + photos and videos of our homes! I hope this will work and we get to bring her home!!! They have only recieved $440 + another 25 I just donated, but that I am afraid is all I can do until next week...Please YTers that have extra give even $5 to this little girl. Anyway here is the email I recieved... Dear Alison, What a sweet thing to do! Thank you so very much for genuine concern for Shira. She really is a special little girl and needs lots of TLC. She had her surgery but isn't able to come home for a couple of days because she will not eat. I'm very worried about her. When she came to us she wouldn't eat but she attached herself to my daughter and would eat from her hand. She's so tiny and fragile that she just can't afford to lose any more weight. Of course you can send her something. Her favorite treat is that Kong Peanut Butter spray in a can. She likes really small toys that squeak, she can't handle balls and big toys. I'm sure she'd love to get mail! If you'd like to send her a treat you can send it to Shira, 634 Meadowood Street, Grand Junction, CO 81504. Here are kisses from Shira just for you!!!! |

| http://www.puppymillrescue.com/ Another site that helps rescue Yorkies as well as several other small breeds from puppy mill. I went through the process to adopt a lovely little girl, however my Maxwell did not like her and try as I might he would not accept her so after a heart breaking call I told them I did not want to cause her any more trauma - she had already been through too much. So I give to help out all those babies that aren't as lucky as our wonderful babies. And I make a point when I go in the pet store to tell anyone who I happen to see looking at the new puppies to check such sites before they buy. Perhaps someday they will all be closed!!!!! |

| I tell you what before I got Maxwell and Zeus I didn't think twice about the dogs I saw in the pet stores (I rescued Zeus from a mom and pop pet store) he had been keep in a small box up in the wall you know how they keep them any way (i get my fish food at this place or did) he had been in this box for over 5 months - the day I couldn't take it any more I saw him run in a circle and jump at the door in the back - it broke my heart - he looked like he was going crazy - so I asked if they would take $400 I had (in my purse for something else) long story short they said no - well I knew then they weren't animial lovers - I went home tried to not think about - told all my friend hoping one of them would save him - then finally I thought oh to heck with it that new fence in the back yard can wait - so off my son and I went (he's in college and he went with me to keep me from just slapping the owner) what can I say I work for a construction company - any way Zeus was a mess - he is over 6 months old had not had shots since he was 9 weeks old, had fleas, tape worms, and bad knees, underweight. The doctor thinks he is part silky - I told her I didn't care if he grew to be a great dane - he was not staying there one more day - now he is spoiled rotton and I do not get anything from that store every and I tell every one about him - I even carry pictures of them both (what can I say I don't have grandkids yet. Sorry so long winded - I just had to share....God Bless all the good people out there, that care and love there dogs like they are family!!!!!!! |

| Administrator | Yorkie24U asked me to post this for her as the latest update: --- Here's the latest news I just got Wed nite about Shira....... she's doing better. Please post it for me in the thread " I want this little Girl ".. Thanks, Im having a difficult time getting this thru to the forum....... Thanks.......... Sent: Wednesday, August 03, 2005 11:03 PM Subject: Re: Petfinder Pet Inquiry: Shira CO (Id ) Hi Again!! I called the vet this afternoon to check on Shira and he said it might be a good idea for me to visit her either today or tomorrow. I was pretty down because I had anticipated getting her back tomorrow, not just a visit. But he said she still hadn't eaten anything and wouldn't put any weight on the back legs so she'd need to show a whole lot of perking up before he'd let her go tomorrow. We hopped in the car (armed with baby chicken sticks and her calorie supplement) and headed right over. First let me tell you, the vet's office is the cleanest I've ever seen. There's not a single odor in the place, it's immaculate! Shira was in a nice crate lined with a faux sheep skin pad, some white towels and a fresh bowl of food and water. She was hooked up to a tiny little IV in her right front paw getting her antibiotics, anti inflammatories, fluids and pain meds. She was lying down when we arrived but when she saw us she popped right up. Her legs are all stitched up, I estimate about thirty stitches in all. She has the little "cone" on her head so she won't nip at her stitches but it's a soft blue plastic one so I bet it's a lot more comfy than those hard ones. She looked like an Ann Geddes calendar! She was so happy to see us!!!! She gave a million kisses and was super alert. I fed her by hand and she practically inhaled the chicken LOL!! She was so happy she ate two of my palms full of her little Iams dry food with the calorie supplement mixed in. Without the supplement she turned her nose up. The vet was so impressed.! He said seeing familiar faces what exactly what she needed. We stayed about an hour. She's still really reluctant to put pressure on those back legs. She did a handstand to move closer to us. We didn't really get to 'hold' her but caressed her and left her a little toy and some more food and supplement for them to feed to her later. She started shaking when we left which broke my heart ...but just seeing her really put us at ease. She's so tiny!! She's getting outstanding care!!!! All the same I'm hoping they will let her out tomorrow.... Thanks for all your concern and prayers, |

| This just breaks my heart, what a sweet baby girl. Could someone let me know how much more they need to pay for her surgery? I'd love to adopt her, but wouldn't be able to give her the constant attention she needs (I work M-F). I'd like to donate whatever the remainder of her surgery costs are. Someone, please let me know how much and where I should donate. Thanks! |

| Shira currently needs $745 to cover her medical expenses, she also needs things to make her feel more at home, her address is listed above...This morning Bruce sent her some squeeky toys, a stuffed hippo, Greenies, treats of all kinds, and dog bubbles, so I would really suggest donating whatever you can to her medical care!
