Hi Again!!
I called the vet this afternoon to check on Shira and he said it might be a good idea for me to visit her either today or tomorrow. I was pretty down because I had anticipated getting her back tomorrow, not just a visit. But he said she still hadn't eaten anything and wouldn't put any weight on the back legs so she'd need to show a whole lot of perking up before he'd let her go tomorrow.
We hopped in the car (armed with baby chicken sticks and her calorie supplement) and headed right over. First let me tell you, the vet's office is the cleanest I've ever seen. There's not a single odor in the place, it's immaculate! Shira was in a nice crate lined with a faux sheep skin pad, some white towels and a fresh bowl of food and water. She was hooked up to a tiny little IV in her right front paw getting her antibiotics, anti inflammatories, fluids and pain meds.
She was lying down when we arrived but when she saw us she popped right up. Her legs are all stitched up, I estimate about thirty stitches in all. She has the little "cone" on her head so she won't nip at her stitches but it's a soft blue plastic one so I bet it's a lot more comfy than those hard ones. She looked like an Ann Geddes calendar! She was so happy to see us!!!! She gave a million kisses and was super alert. I fed her by hand and she practically inhaled the chicken LOL!! She was so happy she ate two of my palms full of her little Iams dry food with the calorie supplement mixed in. Without the supplement she turned her nose up. The vet was so impressed.! He said seeing familiar faces what exactly what she needed. We stayed about an hour.
She's still really reluctant to put pressure on those back legs. She did a handstand to move closer to us. We didn't really get to 'hold' her but caressed her and left her a little toy and some more food and supplement for them to feed to her later. She started shaking when we left which broke my heart ...but just seeing her really put us at ease. She's so tiny!! She's getting outstanding care!!!! All the same I'm hoping they will let her out tomorrow....
Thanks for all your concern and prayers, |
