| "Curbing" your dog -- sidewalk etiquette? Okay so I was out walking Franklin the other day and I realized I didn't know what the proper etiquette is for walks! Franklin and Maggie are both markers and they just like to pee on everything and I can't really stop them (they don't have very good leash manners yet!). I always have my biodegradable bags with me for when they poop and I ALWAYs pick it up but is this even okay? Do you all mind if dogs pee/poop in your yard? Obviously you can't pick pee up but the poop can be easily disposed of. I don't even know what "curbing your dog" means! Are you supposed to keep their pee and poop on the curb? Because that'll never happen for me.. we'll just have to stop taking walks lol. They HAVE to have something absorbent to do their business on..

Donating YT Addict | I think I would mind if a dog peed and pooed in my yard even if the owner picked it up. The pee can burn grass and shrubs and you can't always get all the poo up sometimes. I wouldn't want my yard used as a toilet for other dogs. I guess if there are sidewalk grass edges or public trees and schrubs that would be ok but that is JMO...I think it's really an individual thing (and hey at least your picking it up that's better than alot of folks!!!!!)

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You sound like you have very good manners. I always thought curbing your dog, referred to places like NYC where lots of people were walking on the sidewalk, but I don't even really know what it means. I think it's great you pick-up the poop, I wish more dog owners did this, especially with the larger breeds. We have places to walk that aren't really someone's yard, I would try to avoid anything like flower beds, but I don't think a little yorkie pee will hurt grass.

I dislike when I see other people walking their dogs and letting them poo/pee on someone's lawn...like hello you don't want them messing up your carefully tended lawn so why should you allow them to do that on someone elses. There is a lady that used to do that and I ran her off. I find that really wrong for someone to not care about someone elses property.

Curbing your dog means to simply clean up after them. Thank god they have raised the fine and are issuing more tickets now. It's disgusting to smell or step in poop.

| My husband works hard on our yard/lawn and says that when dogs or cats go on it, it will be an attractant for other free-roaming dogs/cats to also do their business there...just not tolerable as the result is burned grass/shrubs by the urine. We definitely don't want to step in poo either.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Dog urine is very acidic and the female urine is the most acidic. Zoey is only 3lbs and she has left her mark on the back grass...lol.

I once almost turned the hose on a lady and her dog. Several times I saw her and I asked her nicely to not allow it 1) because you don't want it on your own so don't do it on mine, 2) she didn't like to clean up and 3) please respect my home and property as I would for yours. I asked her nicely to not do it several times....I told her if your dog likes the grass then allow her to use the bathroom by the tree or let it be on your property. I was very nice but I saw her do it several other times. So one day I was watering the front and she walked by and her dog made a beeline for my lawn...familiar with it. She made no effort to stop it so I told her if you dont' get your freaking dog off my lawn I am about to soak you both with this hose. She stopped and then went to my elderly neighbor's lawn...so I opened my mouth and repeated the same thing to her. I haven't seen her in a while now. People take the time and effort to keep their places nice and it should be respected. I also have young children and if they want to walk on the lawn then they should be allowed to and not fear stepping in poo.

So I said (and not too politely either!! lol) "Excuse me, but this is my house and I just watched you watch your dog poop on my yard and do nothing"!!! "I KNOW you are going to pick that up right?" He says "Oh I was but we don't have a bag" So long story shorter, after I scolded them for even walking their dog w/out a poop bag, I went in the house and got an extra dog poop roll I had and gave it to them! Then I stood there and watched him pick it up!! LOL.... It blows me away how irresponsible some dog owners are, but when I think about it some parents are just as bad!!! So guess I shouldn't be so surprised!! Glad I caught them though!!

| I don't allow my dog to poop on someone else's property when we are walking. I try to get him to wait until we are on public property. When he is desperate he goes on the road. I always scoop. Also, if we see someone approach I say "with me" and he comes to my side so he is on the opposite side of the person approaching. He now does it atomatically. When he was a baby, I let him approach everyone. Being the "proud mom" I felt I was doing everyone the "honour of being allowed to meet my dog". LOL
