Excessive Panting

Could you give her an ice-cube in a saucer?

When Tink is hot (summer starting here) and still runs about the garden, she loves an ice-cube to lick.

It is very hot right now. I think it's normal. I love the ice cube idea. I'm going to try this with mine after a walk. Thanks.

She curled up sleeping right now and her breathing is still fast. Should I be concerned?

i think it's normal because dogs don't sweat and thats their version of "sweating" is the panting.. teddy does it and he eventually gets to the point where he's not panting anymore and he's fine

well it may not be hot to you but to your yorkie it could be.. feel their coat. I know teddy's SHORT coat gets hot soooo fast but then it's 100+ over here in VA

It's 94 here in nj and I'm panting too. Mine started about 2 days ago as it began to get warmer. Yesterday and today they have been panting alot even though we have the ac on at 78. They are constantly laying on the tile floor in the kitchen as soon as they came in from outside and they don't want to stay out long. They are not going for walks either because the road is too hot for their feet.

Awesome idea. I just gave her one and she's having a grand ole time with it.

What about when I'm not home to monitor her...are there freezable chew toys? I really like that idea!

We live in NJ too!!! Roxy likes the basement floor. It's sooo much cooler down there.

I could go for 94.. it's 103-106 around here with humidity

When Maxwell got overheated and would not drink water, I gave him van ice cream and we lapped it up and was fine within 20 minutes.

get her wet immediately.. panting is a saign of hyperthermia..
keep her cooled off with a water bath as often as needed

really? well It's a good thing in this weather teddy is only out long enough to potty.. and isn't hyperthermia what you g et from being in the cold too long?

Well everyone, I called the vet. She said that she's fine as long as she keeps water in her body. It's very normal for dogs to pant when they are hot. Nothing to fear as long as she's still alert and so on. The Vet assured me that if anything was wrong, I'd know and I'd definitely bring her in at that point.

hyper thermia is too hot
hypo thermia is too cold
my dogs love to get wet and instantly feel better
plus air conditioning...
