| So Nervous In the Car! Hey everyone!!! I havent been on in forever but now that school is out I hope to be on alot more!!! Well, this weekend we are planning on traveling over 2 hours to see some friends and of course I want to take Romeo! One problem....he hates the car! Well, I say hates...when we go to leave he actually runs out and jumps in ....its just once he is in there and we get on the road he starts panting heavily and crying....he has even poo'd in the backseat before! And this is just on a 20 min trip to the groomer. So I dont know what to do about a 2 hr trip! If anyone has any advice please let me know! I'm desperate and dont want to leave my baby!!!! Ps...he is three and around 6 to 7 lbs! Thanks! Jen and Ro |

| The very same thing happens with my Mia. I went to St Louis two weeks ago and I wanted to take her and I talked to my vet about it and he gave me a pill and boy did it work. She slept the entire trip and never even knew she was in the car. It was great. Were going to Branson in two weeks and I'm going to get her some more for her trip there. It's better than her getting sick and stressed. Ask your vet about it.. Hope I helped. Mia and Karen |

| Kammie flipped put in the car for the longest time. My vet said she could have Dramamine for long trips. Also the is a herbal med you can get but I would have to look it up, which I will Also I bought a bottle of Calm Down for dogs at Petsmart. Works wonders, also vet said it was ok to use |

| Here is a thread I did for Kammie. There is a lot of good advice in it. I followed quite a few of the ideas from YTers and Kammie is good to go in the car now Only takes the calm dog for longer trips! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...death-car.html |

| I know he isn't a yorkie but hubby and I had a cat we adored. (our first pet together) we took him everywhere we went on trips. He would throw up and have the splurts coming out from behind (bout killed hubby from the smell alone) finally we took him to the cry and he gave us mild tranquilizers. Sadly we never got to use them on him because that same day he went in to get a rabies and get fixed. He died that afternoon.but I do know the vets have something safe for the babies cause Smokey was only 4 pounds. |

| The vet said he was fine after the surgery but went to give him his rabies shot went back and he had stopped breathing. The vet said it was an allergic reaction to the rabies. It is rare but it does happen. I had never seem nor have since watched my husband cry like he did over Smokey. |

| We have used dramamine because Camden gets car sick and throws up! We have used something safe from the vet for Crosley to calm her because she gets nervous after about 15-20 min in the car. I know alot of people talk about Rescue Remedy and I saw something similar at Petsmart that was herbal!

| Jolie does the same thing ... she calms down half way into the trip . But I was told by the vets office to give her benadryl ( I am not really sure of the recommened dose at this moment ) , I guess some people give their children benadryl when flying so I guess it is not too cruel ??? right !!! Maybe a carrier and small confined place in the car . Jolie is extremely scared when we are traveling the interstate because of the big 18 wheelers .

| So sorry to hear about your sweet kitty! Romeo had a severe reaction to the rabies shot combined with lepto. He went into shock and his throat started swelling. Luckily I got him to the emergency unit in time. Shots are scary things! |
