				   | some people do not know the circumstances surrounding the reason of the dog being in the car. I left my dogs in the car one time for LITERALLY 5 mins with water and the windows cracked to run into the food store with my 2 nieces and in that 5 mins I had a note on my windshield saying "nice way to kill your dogs a$$h0le" and my niece read it! It was 70 degrees out, not 90 and they had water and the windows cracked and it was 5 mins! I wish the person stuck around to see how long I was gone... they would have never left a note. I'd NEVER put my boys in danger! ggeezzz Anyways, Use your judgement, only you know what you feel safe in doing and they are your dogs. Clearly you care about your babies and would never put them in danger... so really the woman's opinion of what you did does not matter. I think you know what you are doing with your babies.

				   | Thank you all. I feel much better now. Oh, and there was no way it was 80 degrees in the car. On warmer nights this may happen, but it was in no way a warm night. It was cool enough out that I needed a sweatshirt... even in the car (after leaving them and coming back). There was a nice cool breeze out. For those of you who show concern about my decision to leave them in the car period, I understand where you are coming from but I have already given serious thought about my decision. I live in a very nice town with little to no crime. Any crime that does occur is usually college kids drinking and smoking pot. There is no "bad" side of town. Like I said, they are always in my sight and I NEVER leave Epsilon alone. My schnauzer is very protective and lets anyone who even comes remotely close to my car know that they are not welcome. Also, Epsilon is too short to look out the windows so he generally sits on the seat or even the floor so people usually only see the obnoxious barking schnauzer. Now if I lived somewhere else (say Salinas, where I'm from), I probably wouldn't leave them because of the type of town it is. Anyway, I shouldn't have to defend my decision to leave them in the car... it's not what I was concerned about. I just want to make sure I wasn't being cruel or causing harm to my babies by leaving the windows up on a cool night. |

				   | I did it once when we briefly visited some friends...the car was right outside their house and Pixie was in her crate which was covered with a blanket, they have a large boisterous Boxer dog and very young children so i was reluctant to take her in with us. I would never leave her on a hot day or if couldn't see the car at all times...

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | We don't leave our dogs in the car, we're just so scared to. I don't think it's wrong though. The rule of thumb I've always remembered is that whatever the outside temperature is, it's likely 20-30 degrees higher inside the car, depending on the sun conditions and time of day.

| Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | you are not wrong and neither was she...you know your babies and she doesn't but a lot of people are more sensitive to leaving babies, kids, dogs, cats or any living thing a car now a days due to some unfortunate things that had happen before... i myself rarely leave any of my furkids in the car...unless were were driving around and i needed gas...i would lock the door...crack the window or whatever when i go inside to pay...or buy something to drink...

				   | I don't have a problem with people keeping their dogs in the care AS LONG AS it is cool enough outside to guarantee the car won't over heat. My babies usually go with me every where! Unfortunately, now that it's so dang hot (for me) in NC, they don't go. It kills me to keep them home, but it's not worth the risk. Also, on cool days I would never just take Scooter and leave him in the car while I run in to get something done. That's an invitation for a thief...so on those days Liberty is always there. When she's in the car with him, I do not worry about them getting stolen. You may be upset about the lady, but just think: She did have the best intentions. I would do the same ONLY IF the heat seemed to be a danger... |
